Default Trying to change services being run as domain\admin - 10-19-2006, 11:13 AM

Running BES 4.0 in an exchange 2003 enviroment and I am trying to switch the user account that the services are run as from domain\admin to a service account. I am having troubles getting this to work. I created a MAPI profile for my service account and am currently using that as the MAPI and no the admin anymore and it is working correctly. Whenever I got to switch the user and restart the service it won't send/recieve to the handhelds. Any ideas?

This is not a good idea as BES uses registry setting stored in the user's profile. This is why they want to use a user account and not a service account.

It's currently running as a user account just not the one I would like it to have. I have created a new user in AD and added it as an admin to the local machine. I am just trying to switch the domain\admin who is the specified user right now to domain\bbadmin.

I run BES for Domino so take what I say as a recommedation. As I see it you can do two thing.

1. Re-install the BES software logged in as the user you want to run as a service.
2. Copy the Admin's profile to the user you want to use.

That makes sense. Could you just edit the registry keys where that info is stored?

Default had similar problem this week - 10-26-2006, 04:59 PM

client installed their system using administrator account. CDO/ Update calendar did not work. everything else ok.

to fix I had to change account servives run under. but ... to accomplish to this:

1) created user account
2) added user account to security of SQL database to make sure it was db_owner.
3) added account to local/administrator so it could read/write log files on c:\ drive.
4) tricky part - reinstalled BES on server as upgrade while signed on to the new account. this created registry stuff & MAPI profile. very important!!! also configured services with account properly. used MAPI editor program to set it up properly. ( twice I think; not sure why though )
5) added the new auser account to the exchange server container with Send As permission per blackberry instructions.
6) tricky part #2 - on each account added the new account as Send As permission by hand in Active Directory using View | Advanced Features. if you do not do this - all will work - but you can't send out emails from handsets to external email accounts.

i resolved all issues by finding errors in logs and search google for answers on blackberry site. a couple where solved this way. took aa few hours but was never stuck for an answer to an error message.

all works now. sent customer bill!!
