I have implemented Exchange SP2; configured IMF and Junk Email Configuration. We reject emails with SCL > 7. This reduced the spam be 50% or so.

BES registers itself with Exchange to be notified after SCL is assigned and the message is delievered to the inbox.

Outlook uses a time based schedule to poll the inbox in exchnage, check SCL and then moves messages to Junk E-Mail folder when syncing folders.

HOWEVER, we all know that by the time Outlook moves the message to Junk- E-Mail BES has already forwarded it to the handsets. This is a big problem for me.

A) Does anybody know how to setup a BES filter to not move messages with SCL > X. There is no option for this kind of thing I can see.

B) Slow down BES, so if the user is logged on, Outlook gets at least once chance to move the messages; If handset gets message 2 minutes after it arrives that is fine with us. Speed is not an issue, junk email is, so if we could get Outlook to move it to Junk Email first that would be very useful.

Resolution of this problem would also prevent emails from being forwarded to the handsets if they are moved to folders by user rules. A benefit for all I would think.

Apparently it is possible to slow down the Desktop Redirector to allow SPAM filters time to run.

Can something like this be done with BES 4.1.2?

To set up the Blackberry server on a 45 second delay before forwarding messages.

Instructions for versions prior to 4.0:

1. Run REGEDIT on the BES Server
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. SOFTWARE
4. Research In Motion
5. BlackBerry Enterprise Server
6. Servers
7. ServerName > (Ex., BESSERVER)
8. Find a DWORD value "ProcessMailDelay"
9. If not found, create a new DWORD value "ProcessMailDelay"
10. Set value data to 45 (for 45 seconds) or whatever value that you prefer for the delay in sending mail.
11. Save the new value.
12. Restart BES service

Livelink - Redirection

I tried this with BEs 4.1.2 and I cannot say for sure, but it did not seem to work. Any ideas??
