I currently have 2 BES servers each with less than 30 users. They are running versions 4.0 and 4.1 of the BES software. I am running MSDE on both systems. I would like to get a new server and install the lastest version of BES and move all users to that server without having to re-cradle the Blackberries. At that point I would decommision the 2 orginal BES servers. What would be the best procdure to do this?
I think (and a more experienced BES Admin can and probably will chime in here) you can get away with *only* half the users having to reactivate.
If you set up the new BES with the same SRP ID that the 4.1 BES has (BUT DON'T START THE SERVICES), once that server is up and running you can copy the 4.1 database over to it, shut down the original 4.1 BES, and start up the new 4.1 BES. The users on the original BES should (in theory) all be on the new BES with the same SRP ID (and not have to reactivate). You'd still have to migrate over the users from the 4.0 BES, and they would have to reactivate to point to the new SRP ID.
