Anyone using Bloomberg for Blackberry?

The Bloomberg software is a third party software therefore Blackberry will not help. The BES is version 4.1.2.20 running Windows 2003, sp1. From the BES I can telnet on port 6464 to the Bloomberg transaction servers. The Bloomberg MDS Gateway is now running on a dedicated server. The handheld devices are not connecting to the Bloomberg transaction servers and the logs on the MDS Gateway server are indicating disconnects. The firewall settings are set to "never" timeout. Bloomberg cannot fix the problem.. we've been at this for almost two months now..

Does Bloomberg have your ip address that the BES is connecting from? Also make sure that the public ip of the BES must be static. The BlackBerry unit also have to point to the internal ip of the Bloomberg Gateway. Disconnect messages are ok if the user leaves the Bloomberg apps running on the Blackberry unit and go in and out of coverage.

We have seperate BES and Router servers, and the Bloomberg MDS Gateway is installed on the Router server. As long as you've got your ports setup correctly and have registered your Router Servers external IP with Bloomberg you should just have to setup the following on your handhelds:
3) When the user has received the application on their device they can start it up by going to Applications > Bloomberg.
4) Press the scroll wheel and on the menu that pops up select Settings.
5) Change the Server Port field from xxx8220;localhost:4444xxx8221; to xxx8220;{Router Server IP}:4444xxx8221;, press the back button and save the changes.
6) Restart the Transport by selecting Yes.
7) Enter your Bloomberg Anywhere username and password to log in.

Or if you have the latest Bloomberg client on your handhelds you can just put an entry on your Router Server for 'bloombergmds' which is references in step 5 above instead of localhost.

Thanks for the feedback guys! We don't have a router server but do have a dedicated server just for the MDS Gateway. Other than the putting the software on a Router server, I've done everything that you guys indicated. Our Network Engineers are resetting the Firewall this weekend. Maybe it will clear something up... wish me luck!

Ok .. We also have Bloomberg MDS here and let me tell you it took close to a damn year to get it working right!!!

With BES 4.1 you have to edit a couple things.

1. Validate your install.bat information, with BES 4.1 you have to change the port

2. your HOSTS file needs this loopback:

127.0.0.1 BloombergMDS

after you have all this setup drop to cmd and telnet and ping the bloomberg IP.
