It's actually designed to do this apparently. i did have one of the guys at RIM explain it to me (but it was over beer and for some reason everything is hazy!)
Attached is a presentation that shows the flows, it's not great but i hope it helps. it does (I believe) have mr voons email address and he's one of the wireless architects in charge so could be worth an email.
(update - tried to attach the file but its 690Kb - does anyone have some space somewhere so i can post a link to it? or you can pm me and I'll mail it)

Hi,
Did the aforementioned document get posted and I missed it?
I am trying to understand, then explain, the logic behind the presence awareness feature of LCS with multiple logins for one user and how to stop IMs from going to the BB when the person is at their workstation. I know signing-out on the BB does this but most people don't remember to do this.
I also found a MS KB911996 article regarding a fix to LCS that addresses presense awareness issues. Has anyone applied this and did it make any improvement?
support.microsoft.com/kb/911996
Thanks!
p.s. you'll have to paste the link into your browser since I don't have the required 10 posts to embed a URL in a message.
