Hi, I am new to the group, new to BES, so I have a simple question for now. It may get deeper as people reply back.

My question is.

I have a Win2k Server running BES 4.0. I wan to do an inplace upgrade to
Win2k3. What steps should I take? Has this been done by anyone in the group?

My email is Exchange 5.5, and I am in the begining stages to go to AD with Exchange 2003

Any information or gotchas I need to know about will be appreciated.

I would update Exchange first, I've read of problems using Win 2K3 as the OS on the BES when connected to a version of Exchange prior to 2K3 - I think it's a compatibility issue with the 2K3 Exchange System Manager running on Win 2K.

If you're re-installing Windows on the BES then I would:

1. back up your database
2. export your user list
3. reinstall Windows
4. reinstall BES
5. import user list

See what it looks like after this. Others may have other ideas on the best way to do it but this would be mine. I'd hang out for some more responses and then make your mind up!

Would you install BES on the Exchange 2003 Box?
I have a new Exchange server for my AD migration....i wasnt sure if I could just upgrade the OS with BES on it still.....

So if I was going to do this, my steps would be

back up your database
2. export your user list
3. reinstall Windows
4. reinstall BES
5. import user list


Are these all available in BES or do I need the migration kit or what others are recomending to use?

Or do I just leave as is, running Win2k and not worry about upgrading as part of my migration. Win2k can run in a Win2k3 Domain.....this may be my easiest way to go. The version of Exchange on the BES box is Exchange 2000, but just for BES. The main mail server is 5.5
