Default Messages fail when device is not connected via USB

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, I have a problem with a BES server I just built out (I'm a consultant and build out quite a few of BES servers on a regular basis). First I think I may have to blame the carrier or device but I am not putting it past my own fault on the BES server.

Anyways, BES 4.1.0.38
I will add the user by the USB cable and it gets the policy and service book fine, while the device is plugged in. The very second the user unplugs the device no messages go to it and it says failed to deliver.

That sounds like a service book problem. Options >Security Settings >wipe handheld and then add again. I had this very problem once after restoring a user's data to a new device from a backup then trying to plug in and activate via USB. Fix was to wipe the handheld first then re activate. When we did it we did an OTA activation the second time and it worked just fine.

I did that via USB. I didn't try an OTA activation, I really shouldnt have to. But that is an idea.

Checklist:

1) Device: Messages > Options > Wireless Reconcile = On

2) Server: BlackBerry Manager > User > Properties > Redirection > Redirect Incoming Messages to User's Handheld = On

3) Server: BlackBerry Manager > User > Properties > PIM Synch > Wireless Synchronization Enable for this user = On

Is this for one user only, or multiple? If for multiple, are all the BES services running? Check "Services" in Windows to confirm.

Hope this helps,
Pete

Also, go to the security options on the handheld. Inside of it, (where you change your password) scroll down to the bottom. See if the Desktop "Services" are there.. it should have your SRP identifier in brackets.

I got it. It was on Cingular's end... The data plan was messed up and not allowing for BES traffic.
