Smile Look up PIN user name?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a server application where, via HTTP, BB users are going to be sending in requests from a BB application. I want to be able to look up the user name of the BB user sending in the request.

I thinking that I would do this pehaps by access the BES data/files. I know that the PIN user list can be exported to a file, so I know the data is in there. Is it accessable via open api's or otherwise access methods?

Alternative, can anyone suggest how, from the server side, it is to know the user name of the BB device making the HTTP connection?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.
Cheers,
Eric

Why not try taking a gander at the blackberry resource kit? I know it will return a ton of information including PIN and username. You could possible filter your results to search for PIN, then when found, return the preceding username.

Just off the top of my head I think it may be easier for you to have a separate database for your app, have a scheduled routine for it to pull the data you need from the actual bes server, ie: user name, pin, email addy etc. I know that the MDS logs contain the PIN of the user coming through, are you using MDS or will they be using standard IP from the vendor?

Well I have discovered my answer.

First, to clarify what I wanted to do, was to look up the user name/email address, from a server side program, that was receiving HTTP requests from BB users. Note. The BB users application would send in their PIN number, so my server side program would have that as a key to look up the user.

I've discovered that the BES Management actually uses a MS SQL database (BESMgmt). Once I learned that, it was a simple matter of connecting to the database, looking over the tables to find table "UserConfig". It has PIN, DisplayName, and SMTPEmailAddress. Perfect. Now I can easily do runtime SQL query of SMTPEmailAddress using the callers PIN.

FYI.

Cheers,
Eric
