On a test bed we have, I keep on getting MAPI error, "Bookmark is not valid". I checked besadmin user's global address list priviliges via ADSIEdit, I tried apply what RipThorn has written, still no dice. The error occurs when I try to run Blackberry Manager or edit MAPI profile for Blackberry Server.
Any suggestions?

What step did you miss, as every time i install 4.1.4 onto my 64 bit 2007 exchange machine, exchange stops as it cant handle 32 bit .net 1.1 and 64 bit .net 2 (which exchange 2007 needs)?

How to fix MAPI "could not open default message store" connect to Exchange 2007 -
08-02-2007, 02:15 PM
Anyony getting the "could not open default message store" with MAPI and Exchange 2007 installations probably took the default (recommended) option in Exchange Setup to NOT support older MAPI clients. This means there is no "Public Folders" database. Follow the MS KB article on how to create them, basically create a new Public Folder database in your First Storage Group called "Public Folders". Once this was done BES Manager was able to connect without error Enjoy!

More permissions required?.... this works! -
08-02-2007, 02:28 PM
This helped thanks, but also I found I needed to:-
1) Enable MAPI access in Exchange 2007 by creating the Public Folders database (the setup routine suggests you sould not support Outlook 2003 clients by default, so does not create it - but that causes BES to fail on MAPI connect).
2) Add the Mailbox (not just AD) permission to the blackberry user mailboxes for BESAdmin to have AccessRights (not just ExtendedRights) of FullAccess. See the MS KB: How to Allow Mailbox Access
Cheers! If this really works I take a holiday, this should not be so difficult!

I fixed my issue by:
I opened ADSIEdit, went to
CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=HMC 40 Green Field Test,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=ad,DC=dom ain,DC=biz
And add Read and Open List permissions, voila it seems to work now

Troubles with activation -
08-20-2007, 01:57 PM
Hi!
I'm pretty new at all this, so I'll try to be as clear as I can!
I installed BES on an actual working Exchange 2007 X64, and the installation went fine.
I had to add the blackberry user in the list, and it worked. I configured everything for this user, but there's one thing I don't understand: when I try to use Enterprise Activation on the blackberry, acter 2-3 minuts, the blackberry says: Activation failed, please contact your administrator.
So I tried with the USB cable, plugged in the user's computer and when I look in the device manager, I see that it's trying to connect to the server, but with the wrong adress...
The adress should be boumboum.no-ip.info but instead it's activationbb.boumboum.com
Where can I tell the blackberry the right address to connect to?
Thank you!

Just to add to this, BES 4.0.x runs fine in an exchange 2007 environment. you simply need to remove esm if you have on bes server and install the new mapi and cdo files as referenced in this thread then change some permissions in exch 07 and works fine. I only ran it for a week before upgrading to 4.1.4 so can't post anything else about it now.

Anywho, even if the "Enterprise Activation" didn't work, the BES catched the PIN of the user and everything works fine...exept it's only one way: from exchange to the phone, and not from the phone to exchange.
Any ideas?

After you have created the BESadmin account then manually go to delegate control and add BESadmin as a Admin View Only Administrator. Then just run the second script.

Mixed Platform - Exchange -
09-06-2007, 02:06 PM
Good Afternoon. My organization is running a mixed platform for 4 Exchange Servers until we migrate to 2007 within the month. (2 2000 Servers, 1 2003 Server, and a test 2007 server).
Until we get the other 3 set up as 2007 servers, do we need to move the besadmin account to the new 2007 test server? I read that we really can't run a 2003 and 2007 together because of calendar synchronizing problems. We want to update to 2007 as swiftly as possible, but there is going to be days when the servers will be running mixed until all servers are updated.
What would be your suggestions?

You don't need to move your besadmin account, but rather you need to make sure you have the most up to date MAPI / CDO dll's on your BES. That said, you only need to worry about mailbox servers ... you can get the MAPI Client and CDO dlls from Microsoft

Is there a work around for the calendar synchronization for a 2000/2003/2007 exchange environment yet?
Or am I out of luck and will have to do a Exchange & BES upgrade all at once?

What calendar sync issue are you refering to? Calendar sync works fine for us with Exchange 2003 and 2007, running BES 4.1.4. (Has been fine with 4.0 as well)

If you have Exchange Systems Manager 2003 installed on the BES server it will fully support Exchange 2003 but won't fully sync with Exchange 2007 (e.g. Calendar sync doesn't work). If you remove Exchange System Manager and install "MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1" it will fully support Exchange 2007 but will have sync issues with Exchange 2003 (e.g. Calendar sync doesn't work).
|
Sorry what I mean was Is the above still an issue or has it been fixed?
I'm planning on migrating from Exchange 2000 to 2007 while keeping the existing BES server.
From what I understand I would have to remove the ESM and install the MAPI client and cdo up date for it to sync with Exchange 2007. But doing so would cause issues with older Exchange.

I have an account BESadmin, it has view only rights, the first CMDlet was a breeze, but when I try to perform the second, that's as far as I get.
Suggestions, help or a smack in the head for overlooking something simple would be greatly appreciated.

I added an identity portion in there and got it taken care of.

We moved to a native 2007 enviornment last week. All works 100%. I am having an issue with sending BES Alerts from the BES Server itself. Tried to use local IP, fqdn, internal fqdn email, it can't find a valid SMTP Server. RIM support was clueless.
Funny thing is all my other devices/apps (APC, Antivirus, Monitoring, etc) send alerts fine through 2007.
Anyone have had similar issues and find a resolution?

Fixed
turns out BES isn't sending the fqdn string to the exchange server. It sends <BESAdmin> and not ![[email address]](http://www.blackberryforums.com/?emailimage=4f64104fde31ef6453b1402910a075d1) .
On the exchange shell, ran:
Set-ReceiveConnetor "your default receive connector here" -DefaultDomain "your domain name here"
If the exchange 2007 Antispam is not enabled, no further action is needed.
If Exchange 2007 Antispam is enabled, mail will be blocked via Content Filtering.
Added the BES Server IP address under Exchange 2007 AntiSpam IP Allow List.
Mail now getting through

I'd really recommend doing a little searching on this ... but it is most likely due to a mismatch of cdo.dll versions between your BES & Exchange. Have you applied all Exchange patches / service packs to your BES that you've done on your Exchange server? Search here and at BlackBerry Technical Solution Center

Alright...
I updated the BES...the update "Rollback Exchange 4" or something like that wasn't done...so I did it...
I tried deleting the user from the BES, wiping the BB, adding the user to the BES again and cable activated it...
Everything activates fine...mail is going through, notes, contacts, tasks are synching...everything except the f***ing calendar!!!
Could someone help me?
I'm running Exchange 2007, on a Windows 2003 Standard R2 x64 SP2 machine. The BES is installed on a Windows 2003 Standard SP2. Everything is updated...from the Microsoft Updates for Windows and Exchange to the last version of BES 4.1.4.12.
I added the "Send-As" "Receive-As" "ms-Exch-Store-Admin" for Besadmin...
Please!!! Make it work!!! I'm paying the beer!

Permissions not working with BES 4.1.4 on Exchange 2007 -
11-06-2007, 04:05 AM
Hi
Our clients BES 4.1.4 on Exchange 2007 and was working fine, except for a calendar issue.
We recommended checking whether the BESAdmin user was a domain admin. It was, and so they removed it.
After it was removed, they restarted the BES, then nothing worked at all (i.e. no e-mail to phone).
We checked and redid the permissions as per the BlackBerry KB12483
get-mailboxserver <mail_server_name> | add-adpermission –user BESAdmin –accessrights Genericread, GenericWrite –extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin
No luck.
We then setup an entirely new BES on an entirely new machine with an entirely new user, again *Nothing* worked (i.e. no e-mail to phone).
We then reverted back to the original BES. If we add back BESAdmin into the domain admin groups, we get e-mail to the device again, but the calendar syncing does not work properly.
Exchange Mapi Client and CDO 1.2.1 is installed on the BES.
Whenever BESAdmin is NOT in the domain admin group, we get a MAPI error that we have below:
MAPIMailbox::CreateSearchFolder - Open Entry (0x80070005) failed
If It IS, it works OK (apart from the calendar syncing).
SRP shows Connected
BlackBerry Services are all running fine with the correct login
Components NOT working: mail inbound, mail outbound, PIM data contacts and tasks, PIM data calendar

OK EVERYONE! I just got off the phone with Spencer @ RIM and we found the problem! The documentation is wrong... The documentation on PAGE 27 of BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange - Version 4.1.4 STATES:
3.Type the following command:
set-mailboxserver “<messaging_server_name>” | add-adpermission –user “BESAdmin”
–accessrights ExtendedRight –extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin
IT NEEDS TO BE:
set-mailboxserver “<messaging_server_name>” | add-adpermission –user “BESAdmin”
–accessrights GenericRead, GenericWrite, ExtendedRight –extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin
Notice the addition of GenericRead and GenericWrite.
This will resolve all one-way syncronization issues with Calendar! You dont even need to restart the darn BES services, it just starts working...
RIM is changing the doucmentation ASAP...

Event ID: 20216

Time: 11:47:46 AM

Description:
![[email address]](http://www.blackberryforums.com/?emailimage=6f2bbde76b959eb74c31de3f980da01a) } Synchronize() failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=3298
I did that and re-activated the wireless calendar sync:

Does anyone know what to do with that?

great write up. Installed our Bes 4.1.4 with exch07 sp1. No problems. Blackberry docs dont tell you about the mapi client and collaboration objects (at least the ones i found).

Co Existence -

We are starting our migrations to Exchange 2007 soon and I anticipate being in coexistence mode for something like 18 months. The comments on coexistence are worrisome. Is it as simple as ensuring that the CDO.dll is the newest and the same accross my BES environment or will I have to stand up another BES?

I think it is pretty clear that you need a separate BES for Exchange 2007. We had not thought about this either but we are now as we are in the midst of planning our Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 migration.
