Default Is there a way to prevent this?

One of my users have an 8830 and it lost power on the device this weekend. After recharging, it did not have connection to the BES and I had to run enterprise activation again. This can't be normal, can it?

Did anyone else run into this and if so what did you do so it did not happen again?

I do not want this to happen again so any help would be greatfull.

This is absolutely normal if there's an IT policy on the device which tells the BlackBerry to wipe itself if the battery loses power.
We do this with our executive's BlackBerry devices, because they typically keep sensitive e-mails on them.
If they ever lose the device, it will lock after a very short time. If the battery runs out, the device will automatically wipe.

Security Policy Group > Secure Wipe if Low Battery = True

Thanks for the insight. Is this something newer with the 4.2 devices and BES 4.1 or is this something I just overlooked? I didn't remember this happening on BES 4.0 and the 4.1 and older handheld OS'.

Nevermind my question. I just read the policy and it is for 4.2 and higher.

Thanks for the policy info penguin.

yea, that is definitely not enabled by default. I had that happen to one of my users with a 7520. But all I have is her side of the story. I suspected a PICNIC issue (Problem In User, Not In Computer)

If that was enabled, I can see people runing around shoutting "I NEED POWER FOR MY BLACKBERRY BEFORE IT WIPE ITSELF OUT".

No I did not enable it.

That is why I was concerned as to why it happened. I am still looking into the matter.

But is it currently enabled?
Even if you didn't enable it... maybe someone else in your organization did?

Should have been "customer" - I call them users, but I got the acronym from someone who works retail.

No it is not enabled right now and never was.

Nobody else logs onto the server so others are not an issue.

If I hear anything from RIM I will post their answer.

OK, then I'm more inclined to agree with ladydi at this point.
