Question Hosted BES vs. BES Corporate (work)

Please Login to Remove!

I'm trying to figure something out. Is there any 'real' difference to connecting to a Hosted BES Service vs. a Corporate BES (like at work)?

Would one lose certain options / features?

Simple answer No ... longer answer Maybe / Depends

You lose control over tweaking settings. Think of every possible thing you might want to do and then contact the hosting provider and see what custom things they'd set up for you.

Will they let you create your own custom IT Policy?
How's about application deployment?
Will they push software for your users (like DST update)?

As far as basic functionality; you'll probably get it all ... maybe even an MDS/BlackBerry Browser.

The toughest thing is the setup. If you've got your own mail server you've got to figure out how the two will communicate.

As a hoster we do both hosted mail w/BES and remote hosted BES. These are some questions we get and things to ponder.

Hope it helps.

Should be the same thing. Only difference is who is managing the server.

Question

Brilliant! Thanks for the info.

Do I also need to worry about GPRS / EDGE service?

GPRS / EDGE is all with your carrier; the hoster would have no impact on that. However, every time you would in theory call with a question / problem I'm sure they'd ask how your handheld coverage was.

Smack your carrier around if you don't get EDGE everywhere you want ... rather ... ask nicely.
