Default BB locks itself while being used

Please Login to Remove!

All,

My company uses a Security Policy to enforce the use of password protection. Unfortunately, my BB will lock itself even while I am using it. This is extremely annoying!

I can be in the middle of playing brickbreaker, typing an email, typing an IM in Messenger - anything! ...and the device will just lock itself.

Obviously, I believe the intention of the lock is to activate after x-minutes of idle time, not just every x-minutes.

I believe this is something wrong with our security policy - because it happens to ALL of my coworkers, too. We have all models of BB's (I just upgraded from 8700 to 8300 and it is still happening).

I am hoping that this is something wrong with the Security Policy (as opposed to being a bug). If anybody knows what settings I need to ask my administrators to look at - that would be helpful!

Thanks.

There is nothing wrong with your BlackBerry. There is a policy that forces the device to lock after xx minutes regardless if your using it or not. Its just an extra layer of security.

Yeah my guess is that it is in place in case a BB is stolen, then the perps can't just keep hitting a button to defeat the timeout. It is a pain sometimes.

Ok, I figured it must be a Security Policy option. It is quite annoying indeed!

Does anybody know the exact BES parameter name? I would like to talk to my admins about performing a review as to if it is a necessary setting (for our business) - or if relying on idle time only would be enough.

Thanks.

Policy Reference Guide

I believe the specific Policy you're looking for is 'Enable Long-Term Timeout' ... "Specify whether or not the BlackBerry device locks after a predefined period of time, regardless of user activity."

It goes with 'Periodic Challenge Time'

Check out page 109 of the linked policy reference guide
