Default New to BES on Notes. Need help please

Please Login to Remove!

I am coming from BES 4.1.3 on exchange. I moved jobs and now the BES is on Lotus notes. I dont have access to the BES but am in chanrge of the BB rollout. Need some assistance in the differences.

1) The BES admin is asking for the notes.nsf file from each user who wants a BB. Why is this? We have multiple different notes domains.

2) Prior to getting the notes.nsf there are some groups they have to be added to (is this like the OU's in AD that the bbadmin account has been granted send as on?)

thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as notes.nsf.

Are you sure your admin isn't asking you for the 'names.nsf' for each user?
That would make slightly more sense, as the names.nsf for each user would be useful if setting up wireless address book syncing. Honestly... if he is asking you for names.nsf for each user, I'd question their motives.
There's better ways to set up wireless address book syncing without the need for gathering files from each of your end-user's computers.

What is it that ya'll are trying to accomplish? That would help to provide you with some better information and a course of action.

yes they are asking for names.nsf.

I am unsure why they need the names.nsf. They are in germany and are being tight lipped about why they needs things and how they do it.

Tell them to enable roaming for the users - it is the best way to handle the syncing of the address book. Any other methods will just eventually or from the get go, cause you more problems.

names.nsf = Default name for your personal name and address book, but also
names.nsf = Domino Directory - the main db/nsf that holds all the guts of a Notes/domino install

And when you say "We have multiple different notes domains." - is this for multiple Internet domains or truly different notes domains? I've never been able to figure out why one company would want different Notes domains these days, but certainly different notes named networks....

The names.nsf is your personal addressbook. The only reason I can see them asking for it is so they can put it on a Domino server to do wireless addressbook synchronization. But this would mean they have to sync that copy of names.nsd with the copy on the user's computer.
