Sorry if this is a basic question, but I'm struggling with the Online Help and RIM's website leaves a lot to be desired IMHO....
Does this have to be done on the BES server? Is there no application I can run on a workstation? I've installed the Blackberry Device Manager on my workstation, but I'm damned if I can find any use for it!
I should mention I'm referring to the initial setup of new devices. I'm aware there's a wealth of settings easily managed once the device has been initially setup....
You can install the blackberry manager on your workstation; use the same installation media as you used to install the server and pick the manager only.
You could also use a third party provisioning app or something homegrown, but I think you're just looking for the BES Manager on your desktop.
Perhaps search for 'Remote BlackBerry Manager' too.
...if you're just wanting a baseline configuration, you'll need to use the backup/restore functionality found within Desktop Manager. This will need to be done before activation is completed. Configure a baseline device 'image' and back it up; restore this image to new devices ready to be provisioned then activate them. For the most part, this should set various options and settings, profile configurations, etc. It will not restore themes, applications, etc.
There's no public way of doing this wirelessly, though.
