Exclamation SQL Server Update SP3a to SP4

Please Login to Remove!

Hi I am a DBA for a SQL Server 2000 sp3a database that suppors the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1. I would like to update the sp to 4 (2187). Does anyone know of any issues with doing the upgrade?

SQL 2000 SP4 works just fine. If you wanted to play real nice with BES you could stop the BES services while you backup and then upgrade the SQL server ... however even when the SQL server is offline mail will continue to flow.

Just make sure to take that backup first.

IIRC, RIM's installation guidelines require SP3a or above. That being said, I am still running SP3 without (knock on wood) any issues.

MSFT doesn't recommend upgrading SP3 > SP3a, so I stuck w/ SP3. Any ideas what has been addressed in SP4?

The only real thing of note is the ability to rollback future hotfixes (but not SP4 itself)

oh and my personal favorite, which I find useful all the time ... "Improved performance for 64-bit systems with more than 31 processors"

The only time I've ever seen that many processors in a single place was when we were ripping out 486 SXs and replacing them with DX2 66's

As an FYI, we heard back from our PAM that all of the docs will be updated to support SP4, so from a supportability standpoint you're good on all bases.
