Default Best / easiest way to Migrate BES from an old server to a new one.

Please Login to Remove!

Guys,

I believe this is a first, I tried to search for a document on the net or in this forum and the only thing I found was the cutover process. It is very complicated and required two SRPs or you will have to migrate the users restore the DB and SRP.

Having a very old server (desktop pc) 1GB RAM and more than 200 users, it was time to move forward and migrate everything to a new server.
Some of the requirmenets were to achieve minimum downtime (less than 5 minutes) and activation of client devices
After quite a lot of reasearch I was happy to find that imaging of the server might be a viable solution. The only drawback however was that due to differences in HW (ex. RAID controller, chipset) the image might not boot on the new server.
With Acronis Universal Restore it worked, but with a few hiccups. A few errors at the end when loading the image on the new server, but after a reboot in safe mode and drivers install, al goes well.
All was tested in a virtual lab several times and it worked, now it's documented.

Hope this will help
