Default Activation 0%

BES 4.1.2
Exchange 2000
Blackberry 8800

Upgraded the BES to accommodate the device. Registered the device, e-mail working fine, calendar synchronised.

Handset reports "Activation 0%" and has not synchronised contacts and memos.

Have deleted and added user.

Have tried stopping and starting connector and synchronisation services.

Have tried changing IT policy bulk loads.

Have tried in cradle and wireless.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try rebooting the handheld, change the activation PW to something that you haven't already used and check the handheld time/timezone

Sorry, should have mentioned, have rebooted the handset too.

Time and zone are correct.

We had the same problem in our environment. We tried activating some 8800's on 4.1.2 and it wouldnt work. We upgraded to 4.1.3 and it worked great. Apparently that SP supports 8800.

I have managed to complete activation by disabling contact sync in the IT profile. I have enabled it again in the hope that the contacts would sync using wireless but this has not worked.

Check the MAGT log on the server - I've seen this sort of thing where the desktop Outlook client had become confused about folder locations.

Does something different happen in the logs for the contact synchronisation than for (say) tasks?

Thanks for that.

I'm in the process of upgrading to 4.1.3 - one more reboot after hours - so will see after that.

Have finished install of 4.1.3. E-mail redirection is fine but activation now stopped at 59%. Address and memo folder still not sync'd.

Checked the MAGT log. There is a ConstructPIMFolder error relating to memos but no clues regarding the address book or why sync has stopped at 59%.

Have rebooted device several times and tried wired and OTA sync.

there is a KB article for a similar issue to this it is not 59% but still mentions the ConstructPIMFolder error might be worth considering.

my next attempt would be exporting the users mailbox to PST with exmerge, blowing the mailbox away, re-creating the mailbox, and then try re-activating.

After success, I'd then import the PST back into the mailbox.

Something like "ConstructPIMFolder - Failed to open the memo folder for user" perhaps? If so, that sounds similar to the problem that I saw previously. We fixed it by running Outlook with the /resetfolders option.

If you google for "resetfolders" you'll get plenty of hits, including caveats to check for before running it (such as making sure that the user is connected to the server at the time).
