Default Device and Outlook read/unread synch issue

Please Login to Remove!

My users' handhelds currently sync with BES 4.1.2. Everything works great except for one minor issue. The handhelds update the Outlook read/unread view just fine. However, when users read their e-mail in Outlook the handhelds aren't updated with the read/unread data. Is there a setting that I'm missing to correct this? I've been looking around but haven't been able to find anything so far.

I see this occuring, too. Got a slightly different problem on top...

If a user deletes a message from blackberry, then it is removed from Outlook.
If a user deletes a message from Outlook, it stays as is on Blackberry

?

Default email read/unread

I have a similar problem but in both directions. If I read a mail on the BB it stays as unread on my desktop and vice versa. Any solution to this problem?

How is the message being deleted?

Delete Key --> Deleted items?
Shift + Delete?
moved to PST?

Only the first of the 3 will reconcile with the HH on BES 4.0 SP6 as the others are considered Hard Deletes

There is an option on the BES (4.1.x) to reconcile hard deletes - I have this set and it appears to work great.

Remember that the reconciliation of read/unread and deletes isn't always instantaneous. Try doing a reconcile now on the BB and if it doesn't reconcile after that, then you have a problem.

I'm flip-flopping between recommending this option and not. There are so many little caveats with hard deletes ... reload user ... move user ... restart server ... only last 100 by default blah blah blah

Yes, I love the functionality ... but depending on the users it may cause some headaches with people not understanding how it works.

I don't understand... it seems pretty straight forward to me:

"Set to True to turn on message hard-delete support. Set to False to turn it off. When this feature is enabled, messages that are hard-deleted from the desktop email program are deleted from the BlackBerry device. You must restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for changes to take effect."

My users have been very happy with this. Can you give me more details as to what problems it may cause?

Well it is straightforward ... the implementation.

For people that process mail on a regular basis this works perfectly. For those that receive excessive amounts of mail or do batch processing (perhaps late at night after a slew of mail has come in ... or every few days) will most likely run over that programmed limit (wherever set between 100 and 1000).

Some customers we work with use this and it is perfect for them; greatest thing since Wireless EA for them ... for others people get confused and want to know why their archiving, moving of some messages to PSTs, and shift+deletes don't all reconcile.

We (or customer reps) then explain the ifs / ands / hows / whys and then there is usually some frustration / push back. Granted its implemented and the majority of people love it and have absolutely know problem ... but that said, I think implementing this comes with a caveat "know your users mail processing habits".

Thanks for the info about the deletes - these issues are very similar to what I have been dealing with in my small environment. Is there an answer available concerning the synchronization of read/unread information from outlook to BB without forcing a reconcile?

Thanks in advance!

yes. patience is a virtue. It will eventually reconcile. for us, it can take around 20 minutes. I can't figure out who these people are that are obsessed with watching their BB and their inbox to make sure they match.
