Default Outlook Problems

Please Login to Remove!

We are having a problem in our firm with Outlook. Users will read or move emails from a folder such as Inbox to another folder or delete them entirely and a little while later the emails will return to the original folder as if they are unread. They will also be gone from the folders that they were sent to when this happens. The problem does not occur regularly but all affected users are also using a Blackberry with our BES server. The users affected have also all had the same model Blackberry, the 7250. We are running BES software 4.1 with Service Pack 4 and on the Outlook side we are running Exchange Server 2003. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or dealt with it? I have found no information about this and RIM can't seem to find anything either. Thanks for any help you can give.

when mail items move back to the mailbox, do they get resent to the BB? also, does this happen when the mail is moved\deleted on the BB or just when it is moved\deleted in outlook? and what version of outlook are you running.

I really doubt that it has anything to do with the BB's but it is awfully coincidental that the people with problems all have 7250's...unless of course, all of your users have 7250's

It looks like this only happens when mail is moved/deleted on Outlook and not if it is moved on the Blackberry. However, none of the users that I asked checked to see if this also happened on the Blackberry so I am not absolutely sure on that end. Also, most of the users do have the 7250 but not all of them. We are running Outlook 2002.

This sounds like an outlook and/or exchange issue and not related to the BB.

I logged a call with RIM about this a while back. after months of investigation they said it was by design. (Bad Design if you ask me)

On conflicts settings is set to mailbox wins.

Try this test and let me know the results

turn off your blackberry for a week.

open outlook read loads of mails move the mails into separate folders. turn the device back on about a week later.

Before you no it, all mails that have been previously read and filed all now appear back in the inbox unread.

The blackberry also shows the same. all mails back on the blackberry unread

If you compare outlook and blackberry all mail is reconciled correctly and if you send a new mail read and file that its fine. but does not help the poor user who has spent hours filing messages away.

the solution is to always make sure your blackberry has a signal.
can you catagorically tell me that none of your users have not got Outlook 2003 installed. (just want to rule out cached mode).

I'll give that a try and see if it recreates the problem. I know for sure that none of the users have Outlook 2003 installed. I also called RIM and they told me that they had never heard of this, it seems like you talked with someone who was a lot more helpful then I did. Is this caused mainly by the Blackberry losing it's signal for a long time?

Thanks for the info on this problem. I tried turning off the blackberry for a week and moving a lot of email to folders in Outlook but I was unable to duplicate this problem. However, even though I did not duplicate it this time I have to agree with you that this has something to do with a signal problem. We use Sprint and the signal at our building is very weak all the time. The users that complained about this problem actually have some of the worst signals in the office. I appreciate your help on this and if you hear of anything else regarding please let me know.
