Default BB sends UTF-8 only with Exchange 5.5

Please Login to Remove!

Does anybody else have this problem?

I have 2 4.0.1 BES'es, one on an Exchange 5.5 server, the other on Exchange 2000 (completely different networks). When sending from the blackberry on the 5.5 bes, all outgoing messages are of type "(Plain Text) - Unicode (UTF-8)".

A device plugged into the EX2000 bes sends as (Plain Text). The problem is that on 5.5, if I forward a message with japanese characters, they get to the recipient with "???" instead. On the 2000 side, the japanese characters come through fine.

Why would BES 4.0.1 act differently with 5.5 vs. 2000?

Default Japanese On BB

Two options for Japanese:
1. MetaMessage language service (www.metamessage.com)
2. NTT DoCoMo USA (www.namikiteru.com)

Default

I know this is quite a dated thread, but I'm having the same problem with messages leaving my handheld (7290) in UTF-8 format - did you ever find a way around to change this?

I've tried tinkering with the Outlook settings (International Options for outgoing mail encoding), but no luck.

*All* messages leaving the handheld and getting dumped in Sent Items are Unicode UTF-8.

Thanks.
