Unhappy Accessing Address Book with phone locked while on a Call?? Grrr

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I have done a search through the forums to see if I could find anything on being to access your address book as you are on a call and the phone is locked. However, apart from some older posts that were complaining about this I have not seen anything recently to indicate that this has changed.

Is anyone able to tell me if there has been a change in phone firmware or BES IT Policy options that will now allow you to do this?

A likely scenario as to why you would want this is if someone calls you while your phone is locked. You are on the phone to them and want to give them a number from your address book. Unfortunately, if it is locked, you first have to unlock the phone. I was hoping there was a way to set an option to allow you to access the address book? I know you can may a call out while locked so I was hoping this had changed as well. Being able to call out does not normally allow you to view the number, only the name of the person you are calling.

Any help greatly appreciated everyone.

Kind Regards
Davinci1969.

This has not been changed in any feature. I have received calls while the unit is locked and would have to unlock if i need to pull a number...Not a feature in the IT policy--I think this is a great security feature.

--If you lose your BB and that person had access to your address book while the device is locked, then your whole address book has been compromised.

Thanks for the reply, I was kind of hoping that it could be an option available only during a call. That way you can still have the BB locked and not access the Address Book BUT if you are on a call, you could access the Address Book.

However, point taken. If the person who stole your phone was able to identify the phone number of your phone, they could theoretically get someone to ring you and then access your address book.

and if you enable content protection then when a call comes in you won't even get call id resolved names with your address book ... kinda forces you to start remembering phone numbers of those you actually call.

Hmmm, hadn't thought to check that out and we're soon going to enable content protection for 6000 users. Thanks for the heads up
