Default Besadmin EMAIL account questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, long story short the exchange server with the Besadmin email account went down this weekend (not the AD account), and our blackberry server failed. I had been told at one point that this mailbox is only used to email users from the blackberry manager and nothing else (apparently not being it failed)

Can anyone tell me the importance of this mailbox? I know it doesn't have any special rights, only the AD account does. As a fix, we tried just putting my account in the MAPI and that didn't fix it until we created a new besadmin email account on the working server and linked it to the besadmin AD account. Any thoughts, I need to report the issue to my manager(s) and don't exactly know why the things went haywire without that account! thanks!

its used for the flow of user mail. Open it and you will see your users' mail in there. This is why send as/receive as permissions are necessary. If that mailbox weren't needed, you wouldn't have to create it when you set up BES. It sounds like the mailbox just got corrupted which can't be a good sign for the health of your exchange storage. good luck.

Right-o ... there's no mail there; its used for transport. As BESAdmin doesn't have full mailbox rights, it needs a method to inject mail into Exchange; which it does with its mailbox. By using Send As BES forges messages and delivers.

Ahhh, that makes sense. That's the best explanation I've heard/seen after doing tons of research. Thanks for the help!!

Sorry, I was wrong about there being mail in there. Its been a couple years since I opened it. I do have mail in mine though, but its mostly from users who responded to the outage alerts I sent from the besadmin account and some other random stuff. I should have looked closer to see that it wasn't actually the user mail.

Although, I swear when I looked in that mailbox when we were running 3.6, there actually was BB users mail in there... I could have been smokin that day though

You're not the first one I've seen talk about mail being in that account, so I do think it may have been in prior versions. (still not saying you weren't smok'n something
