Default Does BB really sync email "differently"?? - 08-27-2007, 09:24 PM

Was told today by my IS guy that my Blackberry via our BES will not sync my emails the way my WM5 device did.

For example, I didn't like that after I moved emails out of the Inbox in my PC's Outlook (MS Exchange server) into another PST file's folders, my BB 8800 would still show these emails in its Inbox, even after I tried to reconcile wirelessly.

I mean, what is the purpose of "Reconcile Now" if it doesn't really do that? Is my IS guy missing some setting in BES, or is he right that "Blackberry just doesn't sync that way"?

I know with BES 4.0 that is how it works - the message needs to be somewhere in the users server mailbox to sync properly on the device.

Once moved to an archive folder or permanently deleted, the BB can't 'see' it when it syncs and therefore does nothing with it.

I have heard that is different with BES 4.1, though..... will move this to the BES Admin corner where hdawg will see it and answer for sure.

4.1 SP2 and above ... Hard Delete support will do this for you under most circumstances. Check out the forums and search the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center too

Default still doesn't work - 08-28-2007, 12:35 AM

i checked out the link and searched around. i am starting to think my tech was right. thing is, i have to move emails to a PST file because i get too many to keep in my OST file, which has a limit of only 90MB.

once i do this, i guess the blackberry can't sync it and just leaves it in my inbox until it falls away after 30 days. unfortunately, this means i can't see only the emails that are truly left in my real inbox that still need attention...

Is your company utilizing BES 4.1 SP2 or greater? If so, then you CAN enable hard delete support (it isn't enabled by default). I assure you it works; really it does.
