Default New BES Setup - Little Trouble

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

Setting up our first BES Server and have been having some trouble with activating the blackberries over the wire. I think I know what it may have to do with but not 100% sure.

During setup it asks if you would like to enable the option to Activate over WLAN or similiar, Im not refering to the WLAN only configuration screen but the screen where you are to enter and an IP address and port number of a server or use MX record lookup. I am thinking this is the screen that may effecting things.

If I go through the entire default setup, I am able to add a user in BES Manager, then choose to generate and send an activation password which I do, the user gets the email, then on the users blackberry i use the activation screen, type in their email *correctly* and the supplied password and click activate. The problem is it never does activate. After about five minutes it errors out saying server is unavailable.

I verified connection to the srp servers of during setup and they were both successful, i validated my srp info and it was good also. I have a static ip address set on the server that has an external IP address mapped to it as well as port 3101 opened.

I am not sure what the problem is except maybe that configuration screen for activivation of wireless handhelds remotely. If that is the case Im not 100% sure what options I need to have specified in that screen. Since what server if I am suppose to be listing? My BES Server or mail server? If my mail server then what port number? it wants a port over 1024. I dont have ports over 1024 enabled on my mail server and nothing listening on any port like that anyways, only the standard 25 and 110 and 80 and 443 because we pop3 as well as owa.

I filled this information with my domain.com and chose to use mx lookup, enter my internaldomainname\besadmin account and its password in the smtp logon fields and used its email address.

Not sure where to go from here. Dont really want to call RIM and use up my support incident.

Anyways any assistance here would be so greatly appreciated. Perhaps I overlooked a simple step.

PS.

This is Express edition. Not that it should make any difference however.

It was actually to do with the fact that our carrier did not have the correct data network data configued at their end. hence the attempts of the bb's to send their data to our server was not actually reaching it. i configured my firewall to record the incoming traffic and was not receiving any hits to it for traffic the bb's use so i figured something else was wrong. i checked and the carrier confirmed they did not properly register the devices.

anyways...wish i had checked with them before hand but i like ensuring the problem is not on our end before calling for support.
