Default BES 4.0 and Outlook, can delete from BB but not from Outlook client..

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

One of my clients has a Blackberry Enterprise server - it's been running for a while. The last time I worked on it we got it up to 4.0.6.7. I'm not sure if/how much maintenance they have - they are a pretty low tech company and probably don't know the difference between the BES subscription and their wireless bill.

Here is the problem:

1. If I delete a message on the blackberry, it will almost instantly delete it in Outlook

2. If I delete a message in Outlook, it won't delete it on the blackberry.

I saw a reference to Exchange Cache mode, and it was set on this user. I tried turning it off and it didn't appear to have an effect. It's a bit of a mess, since the client has several laptops all with different versions of Outlook configured, some of them have the BB desktop software and some don't. We are running on an all-in-one Exchange Server from Small Business Edition 2003, so everything is on the same physical server.

I don't want to waste any more of their/my time working on this issue without a game plan. I don't know if we are entitled to a 4.1 upgrade or not, or even if that would fix it. I would prefer to just fix this issue and not take them down and go through an upgrade for something if it can be made to work as is.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Delete from Outlook to BlackBerry is not immediate. Did you try doing a "Reconcile Now" and see if it deletes?

What kind of delete is being performed? A soft delete or a hard delete?

hard delete = SHIFT+ Delete or a move to a PST
soft delete = just the delete key

Hard deletes won't reconcile to a HH prior to 4.1 SP2 (but this function isn't even enabled by default so you'd need to enable it too)

I say get upgraded to 4.1 (SP4 is current as of now ... SP5 is due out Nov 28th), enable hard delete support, and go from there.

Anyhoo, support for 4.0 goes away come Feb. 1, 2008.

How to enable hard deletes

Thanks, I'll try that stuff as soon as I get over to their site again. Looks like we are going to need to check our server maintenance to see if we can still get 4.1. Is it a free download if you already have 4.0 installed? Or do we have to have a current support contract?

4.1 requires an active contract or you can pay a one time upgrade fee.
