"If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is experiencing a heavy load"?

That's my BES every day. Maybe I need to give it some laxatives.

OK - so I was just about to upgrade BES to 4.1.4 and apply MR1 in preparation for implementing Domino 8 - should I wait until MR2 is released? Or wait until November when 4.1.5 is out? Which comes first - the Domino upgrade or the BES upgrade? And since the server also has SameTime on it (it's a small shop - 40 users) should the upgrade of SameTime from 7.0 to 7.5.1 happen before or after the BES upgrade?

Too many choices - glad I'm not a Libra, I'd be stuck until spring trying to decide....

A bowl of All Bran every morning helps with that

x14 said it best ... I wouldn't let this stop you; 40 users ... can't see an overly large load there

RIM offlicially support Domino 8 with BES 4.1.5. BES 4.1.5 also solves some issues with Sametime.

I used to have a heavily loaded server with over 1200 users, now I cap them at ~600 and haven't seen this issue in our 4.1 SP4 environment. (I also autoreboot the servers once per week, not sure if this helps avoid this issue)

True dat, but I went thru the issues list and there's only five items - all but one have documented workarounds, and the last one (title fields in a non-English address template) is a non-issue for us.

And I figure I can go a month and a half or so without official RIM support in exchange for the new features management has been chomping at the bit for.

Did I say exchange? Bite my tongue....

X14 - what issues have you seen with Sametime that are resolved in BES 4.1.5? Just curious - we've seen some odd things with certain devices that have required some manual workarounds on both the BES and the ST server.

If it helps anyone dealing with the memory leak issues - we have seen this manifest itself when the Domino server console appears to hang and/or when the server console disappears altogether.

We have gotten by the memory leak problem with 4.1.4 via upgrading Domino to 6.5.6 FP1, but only in certain environments. Earlier versions of Domino in the 6.5.x family also have a memory leak problem. You'll also probably have to stick this parameter in your Notes.ini before you upgrade (it resolves other memory leak issues when serveral profile documents are simultaneously accessed):

NSF_DOCCACHE_THREAD=1

If you're at 4.1.4 and Domino 6.5.6 FP1 and are still having memory leak problems, you'll probably have to downgrade back to BES 4.1.3 with the latest MR. There are some posts floating around here about downgrading, but RIM is working on an official procedure for this. No ETA on its release but it will help in these kind of situations (there was also a similiar situation with a MR for BES 4.0.6 for Domino during the DST period).
