Default 2nd BES

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, I just installed BES 4.1 on a new machine with BES 4.0 still in use on another machine. I haven't added any users to the new server - just installed the software. Now the 4.0 server is disabled - a big red X symbol over the server name in Blackberry Manager. Did I do something bad? Can't I have two BES installations in my domain?

thanks!

Did you use the same SRP key? What SP of 4.0 did you have installed and what SP of 4.1 do you have installed?

I'm assuming you upgraded the database as a part of the inline 4.1 install?

Yes, I used the same SRP. I'm guessing I shouldn't have done that. No SP on the 4.0 server. It's version 4.0.5a. No SP on the new 4.1 server.

How should I fix this?

Oh no... same SRP.... very very bad idea.
You may need to call RIM to rectify this.

You've unfortunately effectively crossed the streams. Call RIM.

If you run multiple BES with the same srp, RIM will lock the srp. You will have to call RIM support to get it unlock.

Thanks Egon.

Dr. Egon Spengler: There's something very important I forgot to tell you.
Dr. Peter Venkman: What?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Don't reuse your SRP on another BES.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Why?
Dr. Egon Spengler: It would be bad.
Dr. Peter Venkman: I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean, "bad"?
Dr. Egon Spengler: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Dr Ray Stantz: Total protonic reversal.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Right. That's bad. Okay. All right. Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon.

RIM got me fixed up. Now can someone direct me to the BES document that tells you how to move from one server to another without this happening again? thanks!

Ahhh the knife edge

Alternatively you could perform a migration where you get a temp SRP for the new server and drag and drop users from one BES to the other BES using a shared configuration database ... I prefer the knife-edge.

hdawg, I thought I had convinced you to use the kinder, gentler term.....Spork Edge.

So disappointed. [hangs head in shame]

There is no spork... it's a myth like the female "O".

Wow, maybe the Spork is a little more deadly than I gave it credit for. Gotta love it, though.

Spork fears no one, but Chuck Norris.
