non-BB question - NTFS Permissions and Security Groups

Just curious if someone out there knows this off the top of your head. Is there any utility that will audit what NTFS permissions a Security Group is assigned to for any aspect of network folders?

I'm looking for something along these lines. You choose a security group and can immediately (although I'm sure that is a variable depending on the network) view what folders/shares it has been assigned permissions to on the network.

Is ShowACLs.exe in current Windows Resource Kits what you're looking for?

possibly. i'll check it out tonight while i'm on downtime for our code deployments at work.

*edit: nope. similar, though... i just don't want to have to put in a path. i'm pretty much wanting a lazy man's way of inputting a security group and it letting me know everything it has been permissioned to on the network.

:-)

jibi;

I use an administration tool called Hyena that appears to do what it is that you're looking for.

In this tool I can navigate to a particular global group and choose 'List Directory Security'. The tool then shows me what appears to be all of the directories with security permissions related to that group.

Hyena website is http://www.systemtools.com

Hope this was what you are looking for!

(EDIT) On second look, this looks like it is really just showing the security permissions within Active Directory, not NTFS permissions like you wanted. I'll keep digging around in Hyena though, it is very full featured.

thanks very much. i had hyena back a while ago. i'll see if i can dig up a copy.
