Default PDA Evaluation Procedures

Hey I wanted to see how the rest of you admins evaluate new devices when released. Do you all give your users the latest and greatest or do you all have a test/evaluate plan that you go throught before allowing users within your organization to order? Any documents you have will be helpful, we at my company are trying to develop a strategy for introducing new devices to the organization. Thanks

What we do is set a standard for a year and we do have a perferred carrier. We do have users request other models / carriers and don't really argue if their cost center will pay for said device. We recoginze that different carriers are better in other parts of the country as well globally.

That being said users have their device till it breaks or we decide a model is being phased out, e.g. our minimum OS going into 2008 will be OS 4.1.

I tend to use a model for 6 - 9 months and switch when a new OS comes out so I can validate new functionality / test new BES policies.

Device management is something I'd love to see improved but after moving BES 4.1 and using BerrryStats we have a much better view into what devices and OS are being used.

We take a free for all approach trying to integrate every US carrier, every model, and every OS. Oh ... I work for a RIM partner and we have to support EVERYTHING

For us we don't allow user purchased BlackBerry on our BES. We usually test new handheld OS for a month before releasing it to our BlackBerry support staff that handles the handheld.
