You know its completely possible but there needs to be some serious updates to the bb to put them into the NOW. Such as html email support and office document management and editing...

Great - RIM Longhorn - will we get gored just like with Vista?
The "P" in PDA stands for "personal" as there is no one right device for everyone.

To answer the OP's original question that was asked on 2/4 and it is now 2/15 I can now confirm it will not be released during the week in question.

I am just waiting on anything new from RIM. The Curve and 8820 are starting to bore me agian. I even went to a iPhone for 2 days! I was never so glad to see EDGE back on my 8820 but I am getting bored!
I would love to just see 4.5 but I am still betting we will get a new device with 4.5 introduced first and that is months away according to my sources, months!

what device on the GSM side is months away? A new device launched not that long ago for Suncom (the 8120 pearl 2). I know its tough to wait but things have been released on a fairly regular basis.

I will guarantee that any new device to come out in the next few months (or even after) will not have a model number of 8900. The people who first started publishing this rumor (as well as the ones about the 8500, etc) based this information on domain names purchased a couple years ago by RIM, nothing more. It has since spread from that to people having 'confirmed, concrete evidence' that it will be the 8900. There may be something internal called the 8900, but there will not be public device that will be called that. The next new device from RIM, aside from the CDMA-based 8330, will be the 9000. This one currently has OS 4.6.0.x (it was at .4 the last I heard, which I presume to be fairly new).

No JS, you are mistaken he said, 8900 not 8900.
I have read several posts in this thread and others, where people are saying how tired of waiting they are. I have to say, this is the fun part of being a BB (besides using a BB) owner, feature upgrades, OS upgrade, new hardware. There aren't too many phones out there that have this kind of fun associated with them. I do wish the new OS was here though.

Honestly, look at any other industry that you've ever been involved in and name one time that you've seen so much reported on 6-12 months prior to a product release. Most companies, like Sony and their Playstation, are in control of the information flow prior to it's initial hype marketing and eventual retail release. With RIM, they aren't. There are very deep relationships with both carriers (all over the world) and corporations (again, all over the world), in addition to multiple partners. On top of this, the main campus in Waterloo has a very young and very relaxed environment (think of a slightly mature dotcom), so the potential for information leaks are insane. Granted, information leaks about HTC devices or HP devices, but there's so little interest in them compared to BlackBerry that it makes it's rounds on the internet for a week and then no one cares anymore.
RIM is trying to put some measures in place to prevent the leaks, such as issuing multiple codenames for devices sent to carriers or staggering release schedules of carrier certification for various carriers, etc., but there not much they can do with such a unique blend of partnerships and popularity.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

its better to overtest the release than not. keep in mind we are not supposed to know when it was to come out, so its not foot dragging at all.

If we are not suppose to know about the upgrade, then how do we know. I would assume that it is a somewhat calculated leak to work up a frenzy in the wake of the iphone success and to keep all those that would jump ship a reason to stay aboard...but that is just my guess, but the logic seems right

there are many places on the net that get information before it is due to be announced. in the past RIM has been notoriously tight lipped about everything. Of course, not all employees follow this policy.

We know for the reasons that jibi pointed out above. RIM desperately tries to stem any information from flowing out of it's campus ahead of schedule but it is next to impossible (the same applies for any major publicly traded corporation with lots of fans -- see Apple, Microsoft, any major car manufacturer etc.). Add to that the complexity of dealing with carriers all of the world and you've got a wellspring of potential information leaks.
RIM has published very little on 4.5. Least of all, an actual release date. So, any frenzy we're in is directly relating to the amount of discussion that we're doing here and the various other places for RIM gossip online. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself. Not RIM.
(Although, the release would be nice. As would the CDMA Curve.)

Although I hear what you are saying, I dont think the response about very little published as being correct...check this out http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ill-4-5-a.html
where did that come from...that I would say is pretty substantial...
