Yes, the lack of no tabbed browsing is lame. With the surge of wifi capable devices, (psps, iphones, and uh..*insert example #3*) it'd be pretty great to have it. Who can't agree??
Eh. Opera mini + browser will be pseudo tabbing then.

What I REALLY want is to be able to view FULL Websites! That's all! Tabbed would be a good +, but it's not the seller. If blackberry could get the web browsing thing right.

So you're saying that if the option for tabs you wouldn't use it?? Do you mean you hate tabbed browsing in that... you open multiple windows or your attention span is quite good and you don't multitask?
No, really.

You're very different from me and my entire generation then. Anyway, if there's a browser for pearl in beta, is there anyway to be a beta tester? I'd just like to give it a go all around. If not, then no big i guess.
Thanks

i think we'll likely end up seeing a Webkit-based browser on the BlackBerry sometime in 2009, possibly earlier. just a hunch.

Mobile Safari is based on Webkit, as are almost all other 'real' mobile browsers. It's an open source project. So I will actually venture off and say that if RIM doesn't end up implementing it themselves, there will be a very successful open-source project that will have it developed and in alpha/beta testing within 3-6 months after the BlackBerry 9000 is released. RIM will pick it up the following year (2009) as their official browser...
...of course, that may not happen, but...

Hmmm, advanced web browsing or not, tabbed browsing or not...its still a phone. Let the PCs/MACs do the real web browsing. I sometimes have a difficult time making out words on a 15in color display, let alone attempt it on a smartphone. If I started to use BB primarily for web browsing, I'd be seeing the eye doctor for a bi-focal prescription by now. I use web browsing on my BB for quick references, forums, special interests (news), or just to kill some time. I buy BB because I believe that it is the best total package device available. A true portable "secondary" to my PC.
When you turn on your phone, does it return the favor? Welcome to BlackBerry!

hmm. nothing really. carrier certification continues. in the latest release (which could be potentially the last), a lot of bugs have been fixed and the OS is fairly stable at this point. i'm still having an issue or two with the network dropping out on occasion, but i'm not 100% sold on that being an issue with the OS/radio code. overall, i'm very happy with this one.

that actually made me giggle. lol. if no major bugs are found and carriers certify it as their final versions, then i would imagine some campaigns for training, marketing, etc. will still have to be implemented. honestly, i would still think the current 1-2 months timeframe that has been mentioned a few times on here would still be applicable.

Hey Jibi so factory reset still a part of 4.5. Would love to completly take off IT policy instead of doing the hack as that still leaves some stuff on.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020: BlackBerry8320/4.3.1.27 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
Yes, 'resettofactory' is still available on 4.5. Its actually a function of javaloader but requires OS 4.3.0 or higher.

Doesn't doing a full wipe from jml_cmdr basically kill all the data on the blackberry? thus you have to reload the os?
you get the 507... from there I thought upon reloading os.. all data is gone and factory settings kick in.

That won't do a think the IT policy will still be there. I don't know this works but thats how it goes. RIM must have put it to the phone firmware vs software firmware.

are you sure????
rendering the device useless to where the operating system is corrupt and it displays a 507 would surely remove everything off of the blackberry...
I am guessing the wiping/erasing in jl_cmdr deletes the "registry" if there is one in java... When you reload the os, I would imagine it would be back to factory defaults.
i could be wrong.. but that is how I have been doing it.
I think the policies removal is great for people who don't want to be disconnected from the bes, but don't want restrictions either....
I am not sure.

Not everything.
A javaloader (jl_cmder) wipe will not remove the IT policy on devices prior to OS 4.3.0.

Does anyone know if the new firmware release will correct the media player bug? -
02-29-2008, 01:59 PM
The bug I am referring to is that the media player stops recognizing new music on an 8GB micro SD card after about 6GB have been used up.
Thanks,
the gepetto

That is not a bug... the Media Card is limited by the OS version you are using.
