Default First screenshots of 4.5 OS for 8100 - 03-28-2008, 06:05 AM

At first I want to say, I can't give you any download links, so don't PM me or post here with requests...

This is 4.5.0.9 OS(BETA) for 8100 Pearl.
If you think it's similar with 4.3.1.14 - you're wrong.

The firts different thing is media player.... well it was looking better in 4.3.1 beta I think, but this one is nice too

We can still play video in Full Screen, and switch to list of songs while playing. There's no Bass boost option, or some king of equalizer here.
Voice Recording:

New camera layout. If there's a risk of 'blur', we can see a small exclamation mark telling us about it.

Bluetooth audio streaming works great, we can use bluetooth headphones, or simply stream to PC or BT enabled car-audio....

Documents To Go works fine for me, no Excel yet, but Word and Power Point to Go are great. We can simply view and edit our files from SD card. No MS Office 2007 support yet (.docx files), and we can't zoom pictures in viewing mode.

Of course we can still use L theme, and folder addition.

Enjoy!

Well I have it for 2 days now, and everything works fast,no hangups or errors (I'm not a BES/BIS user). Viewing pictures is way faster from 4.2.1 and when you zoom in, photos are rendered nicely, no 'squares' like in 4.2.....

PS Camera's sound when taking picture is now so quiet, I can hardly hear it in an empty room.

you will find that you wont use it as much as you think you will. I have used it on a palm device, on windows devices, and other small screen devices and its painful. 2" screen versus tethering and a 15" screen/full keyboard... hmm that is a tough choice.

Very true, indeed. But that one time that you need to make a minor edit to a document that's being frantically e-mailed around while you're in the middle of a seminar, you'll be very very glad to have it.

dont get me wrong, i have E-Office now, and have used it some. However I dont think anyone here will be routinely typing If/Then statements in excel documents in cell G35 either. Its extremely tedious at best

AND, the Docs2Go included is viewing only, not creating, editing, etc. Other than being free to view, I have not found a great value in the service yet. I am still open on it, though.

You can edit, also you can use basic formating (bold etc). To change color or size of the font you need to buy premium version. You can't make a new file too, but just put an empty word file to SD, open it and then save as with different name....

PS It works with Suretype of course

I completely agree, and was echoing your sentiments as to the fact that users shouldn't expect to replace their desktops with Docs To Go functionality, but that it is a great solution in a pinch (as far as remote/mobile editing goes). It is a great tool for filling in those gaps when you are away from a computer, but hardly a complete replacement.

I've toyed with e-Office a bit, but found the experience a bit lacking. The latest beta is certainly better, and heading in the right direction. Thankfully, I haven't had any of those "I need to edit this NOW!" kind of moments in a long time.

1. Does Bluetooth audio work with video files now?

2. Does the video stay in sync with the audio in this version?

3. Have you tried ColorPearl?

4. Can you install Opera Mini 4 without it crashing / App Error'ing / Rebooting?

I seriously check every day for this to come out, and when I see that Latest 8100 OS thread title in bold, I get a little excited and die a little inside at the same time...

Thank you for any response you can give.

1. Nope, only with music files.
2. Yeah now it works good.
3. ColorPearl works but it turns all color leds on, so you have only all on or all off selection.
4. I haven't tried to install it yet, but the version I have installed in 4.2.1 works under 4.5 after upgrading.

Oh come on! I just get 4.3 beta loaded up and all that and now there is 4.5 beta out there? I would be most gracious if someone could forward me in the direction of a link or how to get on a beta test list. More than willing to try it with BES!

Html email requires a BES and/or BIS update along with the OS update. Until they update BIS/BES nobody will have HTML email.
