I think you should be forced to continue using this buggy beta OS until a public release comes available since you jumped the gun and decided to find a leaked version to download to your bb.

But maybe thats just my cruel nature...

7280 > 7290 > 8700c > 8100 > 8800 > iPhone (??) > 8320.....and i'll just keep going.

lol, that is just your cruel nature.

tieshabritton, if the 4.2.2 is loaded to your PC, installed, etc., vendor.xml deleted, then run DM and App Loader

I'm working on taking 4.5 off my T-Mobile 8320 right now. It seizes up every 3 minutes or so, random things on the screen are cutoff, it's really not doing well.

Woe is me....

Because I like to beat dead horses... Back to the subject of video capture... Has anyone ever confirmed if the 8100 is even capable of video capture hardware wise? I know the newer gen pearls have a 2 MP cam, but im wondering if thats the extent of the differences, or is it a totally different animal? As in maybe video capture is not something that could even possibly be enabled with software on the 8100's. Im guessing the answer is either unknown or its a yes, it "could" be done... otherwise Im sure if someone had knowledge that the hardware isnt capable, there would be a definitive answer anytime someone asks "will 4.5 have video capture". Just thought Id throw it out there though in case anyone has some in depth hardware knowledge.

It's unknown why the 8100 doesn't have video. What is known is that none of the beta OS's up to this point have had video recording capability for the 8100. This was rumored to be the case way back when this OS was being speculated on. Some have posted from inside information that the 8100 will not have video recording capabilities.

I've tried x.10 on mine but I keep getting that error everytime I go check Services Status, try WiFi options or go into WiFi Diagnostics.

I will just wait. I'm patient. Was just too excited to try.

4.5 is working great on my 8320. Youtube site states my device is not supported and evereytime I reboot, my Today + right column icon arraingment defaults... other than that, seems GTG.

Assuming this was for me, I don't have anything too out of the ordinary. Berry411, Opera Mini (which I couldn't get to work at all), and BBLight.

Aside from a couple of themes that's it.

Default Very disappointed in 4.5 - 04-01-2008, 10:36 AM

I just loaded 4.5 on the 8800. Moderate progress.

Much more readable fonts.

I'm hoping to use the 8800 as a media player. It seems to have A2DP stereo capability (which is the major thing I was looking for), but it pauses whenever messages come in over wireless (probably a CPU loading issue).

All in all, better, but not perfect yet.

JBaughb whatever! dont be jealous lol!! and thank you JSanders, I deleted the 4.5 and reinstalled 4.2 and first it wiped my messages and bb messenger contacts when it restarted with 4.2, so i did a restore from a backup saved before i downloaded 4.5.

everything is back 2 normal, got my icons back, memory is good! bac in love....

4.5.0.10 for the 8310 and 4.5.0.9 for the 8800 both seem to be very stable releases. I have noticed almost no memory leak (nothing more than normal usage anyway) and no bugs to speak of.

I would think that these versions are close to what we see when it finally does get released.

I, for one, have been waiting on this update for so long....that it doesnt even excite me anymore. I would love to have the vid capture and other improved features....but it seems like before RIM officially releases it, someone will come up with a third party software that will enable you to do vid capture. I might be the only one who feels this way...

What happened to HTML emails, or is dependent on the BES or BIS 2.5 update as well?

Was really looking forward to this feature.

I am running the carrier released 4.3.0.105 for my 8120, the beta 4.3.1.14 in the 8100 and the beta 4.5.0.10 on the 8310. All of them seem to lack the ability to use PIN Lookups when connected to the BES.

I am shocked the actual release didn't work. Last known working version was 4.2.2.xxx for any device. I just figured they would have fixed it by now.

well you are using BETA OS's, not everything is going to work otherwise it would cease to be a beta. On the standard release OS, Pin lookup works on my 8120 with the latest OS on a BES however.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but when I do a lookup on someone within my particular BlackBerry Domain on the test BES that I have running, I'm able to pull their PIN information just fine. Been running a beta OS since last October and never experienced the issue you are having (unless, of course, I do a lookup on someone not in the same BlackBerry Domain that I'm located in).

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

but Jibi, OS 4.5 should have this ability on all domains, on all contacts. It is a Beta and thus is perfect.

And there is no HTML email in 4.5, so would not have noticed anything there. There are other enhancements many users have been requesting (playlists, silent dialing) that you might have overlooked.

Overall, it does seem to be an improvement, but if someone told you OS 4.5 would put you on par with an iPhone... nah. You'll have go buy one to get that.
I read that HTML email is a serverside update, not a handset update. We'll see it when our carriers being to update

I've also read that, but the 4.5 WAS going to get it, but then they said they were going to do it in a future update. So it's a handheld update and a server update, and I bet we'll see the server update before the Handheld, because prior to the 4.5 they were supposed to implement it in NOW. But they pushed it back.

4.5 is capable of HTML emails, but it must be used in conjuction with BES 4.1 SP6 (or modified SP5) or the next version of BIS in order to work.

This ^^ is correct, more aptly stated as Rich Text email, rather than HTML.

I'm running 8320_4.5.0 right now.

Pro's-
E-mail looks MUCH better. Much easier to read. Not HTML, but a darn sight better than what it was.
Browser- far superior. Better page rendering. Better interface.
L theme is pretty darn cool.
MS Doc editor, pretty important for me because of work, and the fee PDF application I was using went pay to play on me.

Cons-
No BB Maps.
Slight glitch with Bluetooth connection to my Pioneer car stereo (I made it work eventually)
seems like I am missing calls sometimes if I am on a call or e-mailing. Twice I have had it ring, then when I push answer it reads missed call, but the call comes through anyway.
Youtube isn't working for me.

I'm sure I am only scratching the surface, but it seems like iy is far more user friendly than past versions, but still buggy. I see it as several people have already stated, evolutionary not revolutionary.

It worked good for me on the 8320, but I had extreme problems with memory leaks. There were many times that my BB was running very slowly. I checked out the free file space and to my surprise it clocked in at 0 bytes free.

I loved all the new features (youtube enabled, nice looking emails, faster browser, etc) but the memory leak wasn't worth it so I downgraded back to my old OS. The only other thing I was dismayed about was the video recorder couldn't be used WITHOUT the MicroSD card. I understand why, but it's still perplexing.

I have it 4.5.0.9(11) on my 8800 and I agree with most of what you said.

No BBMaps is annoying. Not a deal breaker but annoying. I think I'll move the .cod's to reclaim the space since it won't work until the official release. I haven't noticed missing calls. Haven't had time to try out the BT yet. YouTube? I guess that's a WiFi thing. I can't imagine doing it over EDGE.

Your 'Pros' are spot on.

What's this 'Memory Cleaner' bit? I don't see it on my 8800.

One thing I have noticed is that this OS takes up a lot more memory. I had 25MB free before 4.5, now I have 21. The spell check and doc viewer take up a lot of space.

BBMaps works on later versions. Streaming is not all that great basically because of the speed of the EDGE but you can do it now though. Everything else seems about right that was stated above.

i couldnt wait any longer so i found a copy for the 8310. maybe its just my excitement for it has passed because it's been delayed more times than the dtv conversion or just because i've played with some of the 4.3 pearls but im completely unimpressed. i don't know what i was expecting really, but it really is essentially 4.2 with a slightly different font and a few additions that i probably won't use too often to begin with

Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from the bus.

So there's a more recent beta for the 8800 than 4.5.0.9(11)?

I have video recording on my 8100...but its purple and green. What i did was take the .cod file for video recording on the 4.5 8320 and used jl_cmder to load it to my 8100, but like i said its pretty bad cuz it's just purple and green no matter what setting you set it to
