Wirelessly posted (life goes on! yes it is tough)

It is rumored that that will be the last update for the trusty 8700 series

Yes, 4.5 is slated for release for the 8700. That will likely be the last update for the 8700.

Nothing has been released. CDMA isn't even rumored about yet. CDMA will get it, it's just a matter of when.

I am not sure if it is official release, but I am downloading it. I can show you some pics from those who have installed it. I believe it is true.

That is an "unreleased" version that was spread around the internet but has not been certified by the carriers and released for public use. Use at your own risk.

Yes, it is beta. I am using it on ATT with my tmobile 8700g. I was not able to get my blackberry internet browser back after installing this beta. I have tried sending the service book and no luck. I guess there is no OS 4.5 specified version for 8700 yet. I haven't tried to back up my service book from 4.2.1's version and use it on this beta to test it out. Too much trouble to do so as I mainly use my 8700g to charge my curve's battery now. Once again, it is a beta, so I expect all bugs =)

BTW, I do think 8700 does show its age while using OS 4.5 (feature wise)

The 8700's memory and processor are no different than what's in the other devices today, so I'm not really sure how it's 'showing its age'. With that said, I think some people will be disappointed in finding that the software will likely not be found on some major carriers who are interested in phasing out the device and moving on. While you'll be able to download it from another carrier, there will be no support from your own.

What I meant is (feature wise) 8700g lacks of GPS, Wifi, camera, media player, memory card support, and etc. That's how I feel after I found out there are only three icons under media - ringtone, photo, and voice recorder while the newer phone has five. It doesn't take full potential of what os 4.5 could offer.

I do love 8700's keyboard than any newer one, just wish it has media player so I could use it more daily.

I saw 4.5.0.28 version today. Is it a beta? Does it works fine?

Best,
Jaime

After testing this beta release, I found it is slower than OS 4.2.1, I always got waiting point, I will change back to old version.

Wow. A beta is slower than a released version.
I'll alert the media.

Was it worth the effort?

I installed the beta. I haven't found it slower. The browser is much better than in 4.2 version.

Best,
Jaime
