For the 8320 I use this:

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.6....4&dc=Web_exp02

This link should work for the 8100, too.

These are case sensitive.

From my post in another thread:

Thanks to BobJ on the Google Maps forum, a link to 1.6.4 has been found:
Google...

1.6.4 has an active link that does indeed load the earlier Google Maps on BES 4.5 BB's.
I just downloaded and installed. Not as robust as v2.2, but it will do for now.

I posted links for installing Google Maps 1.6.4. There's not much else you can do unless you can convince your BES Admin to do something about it.

The one for the 8320 works as it's what I use all the time. As for the 8100 link, I just guessed.

John pointed out to me in another thread that my link did not work. Not sure why, but if you go to the original post on Google Maps group and scroll down to BobL's reply, that link should take you to the 1.6.4 download site:

rjhughes, it was just in the way you were copying the link. Here is the link from the Google Maps forum:

Default Finally!!!! - 07-24-2008, 11:55 AM

Finally got GMM 2.2.0 to work....and got it to work on three different users, with two different OS versions.

4.5.0.37 and 4.5.0.42 on T-Mobile Curve (8320)

This week we patched our BES server to SP6.

On the BES, for the users we tried to fix, we set the Assign Software Configuration to NONE

Waited about 10 minutes for the change to sync to the device.

Went to the Options - Advanced Options - Applications on the Blackberry.

Select Google Maps and Edit Permissions

and set PHONE to ALLOW

Now GMM works as designed.

It appears that any application config prohibits the Allow setting, however even without a config and Phone set to ALLOW, this did not solve the issue until we upgraded the BES to SP6.

read the same with some screenshots (www.torbenator.com/2008/07/24/Blackberry+OS+45+And+GoogleMaps+220+Problem+Solved .aspx)

Can anyone replicate this on their BES server?

This has been documented already. Once you set it to none, you can load the app. It works like this on all versions of BES. You can even set the Software Configuration back and GMM will still work.

Hopefully they will get this fixed soon as I don't think admins want to do this for every user.

I am not sure then, I had set the options, while named differently prior to SP6(see my confusion on top of page two) but I still could not get it to work.
As soon as we upgraded, my GMM started working.

I can only guess we were WAY behind on patches on our server, unfortunately i have no way of verifying this now.

(re link....for some reason there is a space before the .aspx, when i edit the message it is not there )

Yeah, I see the space now. I didn't notice it. The forum does that for some reason and I've no idea why.

Our Admin has us on a Software Config for my bluetooth keyboard and for some ribbon icons for some job related sites that we access a lot. This would require the admin to remove the software config (set it to none,) load GMM and then set it back, correct?

yes that sounds reasonable. If you already have it installed, I think you just need to change the application permissions for GMM on the device.

I wonder if your admin just changes the application control policy of the BT keyboard and Icons to Phone - ALLOW, if that would work too?

I have to admit, I am no guru when it comes to applications and their policies on the BES, we just don't use them enough. The ones we have, were all setup with instructions from the vendors.

I just applied an app control policy which had PHONE set to PROMPT back onto my user account, the device had to restart and now GMM is dead again.

however my permissions for GMM didn't change but my default permissions did, phone went back to PROMPT. I was able to change PHONE back to ALLOW in the default permission and GMM works again.

I don't quite follow the logic in that but maybe someone else can explain how this is suppose to work.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Well, your instructions made sense to my BES guy and we tried this in 415. He removed me from the app control policy and GMM worked fine. I then had him add me back to it and GMM went back to prompt. Since my app policy is only for my keyboard I had him remove me from that completely as I don't use it that often anymore. GMM works now but, of course, keyboard doesn't.

I wish RIM would fix this stuff. It only happens in OS 4.5. What is different in the handheld OS that causes this? What a pain for admins and end users alike.

This method worked for me. The newer version of maps that comes with 4.5, has to be servicebook controlled. And the older version does not. When you remove both from the DM's install list, and replace it with the downloaded version, it should make it show up. Good luck...
ok, it does not work

what exactly in which directories do i need to remove?

update: thank you all who contributed to this thread!

it works now.

the problem was the precision theme.
i changed to icon - BB maps was there
i changed back to precision - BBmaps was already there!!!

thank you again - great forum!!!

Out of curiosity I tried the latest GMM 2.2.2 version and it hung at 90% also. I'm on BES and apperently have the default SW config policy. My BES Admin won't address this issue until either a US carrier (ATT or TMO) release 4.5 officially and if the problem is still exists. :(

I really miss GMM 2.2.X. I used it as a visual 411 all the time. GMM 1.6.4 just seems so antiquated in comparison because I have to know what zip code I'm in to search local and can't use the "my location" feature.

I nearly backed downgraded to 4.2 because of no GMM 2.2.X but then saw the benefits of HTML e-mail and the use of BT headsets with UMA so I'm sticking with 4.5.0.52. I'm figuring Google and RIM both have to know about this problem. Just got to be patient.

I think I've read that the Windows live moible app does NOT need a data plan. I dunno if that's true. I have a data plan and it works for me. You can download it OTA from wls.live.com. It's not a bad little application. Just wish it had the cell triangulation like GMM.

There is only one app that will give you maps with no data plan. It's called Mobile GMaps and you have to do all the maps ahead of time. It's klunky and difficult to use and I barely call it an option. So, I'll say this: At the present time there is no mapping app that doesn't require a data plan.

Has anyone gotten this to work successfully - I had a version of GM 2.2.? running on the Romania 4.5 on my 8820, but like a fool i upgraded to GM 2.2.3 and got hosed. I tried all of the suggestions including working with our BES administrators to unlock the policies for my device - didn't work and most recently downgraded to ATT 4.2 and then installed GM 2.2.3 which worked properly and then reinstalled OS 4.5 and it hangs at the same grant access point.

Thanks I'm willing to try almost anything.

This thread is about Google Maps, not Blackberry Maps.

Do a search on this forum. Blackberry Maps latest version (with OS 4.5) doesn't work with AT&T. There is a service book that, for some reason, AT&T refuses to push to the device.

There is a way to get the older version to work. I wasn't a fan of BB Maps so I don't care much about it or remember what you needed to do, but it seemed like a lot of work as I recall.

mgerbasio,

I think you need to reread the very first posting as anyone can tell the the thread talks about google maps " & " blackberry maps. bb = blackberry. And I already know that att hides it and i know how to let it show using the os 4.2 but i have 4.5 and am able to install it just get an error message when trying to open it. so my posting is in its correct spot.

Default reason why Im trying to get blackberry maps working - 08-21-2008, 10:58 PM

I use the telenav that att uses, the only reason i am trying so hard to get the blackberry maps to work is because I am trying out a software called " samecell " and for me to fully understand and appreciate the software it calls for me to have blackberry maps. reason's why I like to try before I buy and if I truly like a program i'll pay for it and I am in no way going to give up my telenav just for another app, ill do away with the samecell before that happens.
