Why is Verizon (CDMA) last to the party?

Are they last?
No CDMA carriers have released OS 4.5 yet. Verizon could be first for all we know.

This is a good point, I wasn't thinking about official release since this is the beta thread, but Vodafone has already release 4.5, so maybe Verizon is next, since they are partners.

FWIW, it seems CDMA was the first to get a 96MB device....and with OS 4.3 already loaded. CDMA isn't ALWAYS last anymore.

I saw BBF News showed some screen shots on it. My hope is that is a good sign that it is close to release.

The word around here is that August would be early, more likely September and later.

Vodafone is GSM only. They have nothing to do with CDMA.

I'm fairly sure that the rumours about a Vodofone and Verizon merger were false.

Vodafone owns just under 50% of Verizon Wireless.

Thank you
If a 9xxx model becomes available with my carrier then the whole issue may be moot

VZW has not finished crippling 4.5 as of yet. They are still working on it.

The updates for 4.5 for the CDMA devices are relatively small compared to the GSM. Keep in mind that CDMA was the first to release 4.3 AND video recording AND side loading media card slots. They are not last in everything. Also, their devices when they come out are actually more advanced than the GSM devices of the same model series. 8330 vs 8300/10/20. And as a final point the touch screen BB will release on Voda/Vzw ONLY at first.

I honestly dont know why people complain so much about CDMA. Dont like it? Move to ATT/Tmo. Dont want to do that? get over it

I agree with you as well but did not understand the issue or distinction until now. I will definitely rethink my carrier choice when I have the ability to abandon ship. VZW offers a great deal for spouse and I on phone service. So it does have its pros and cons.

Yep, beta is out, should be too long. I'm running it on my 8330 now and it seems pretty stable. No major issues.

Any trouble sending/replying to SMS messages?
Is your device on a BES?

Main issue I have heard would be that you are unable to select multiple messages for deletion. The delete all prior works but not the shift/scroll or alt/scroll

Selecting multiple messages is definitely bugged as Sith mentions.
I've installed 4.5.0.33 on an 8330 and an 8830. Both Verizon, and both on BES (two different BES in fact).
Neither is able to send SMS messages.
It's not IT Policy related, since the same problem exists when the same devices are NOT on BES.

Could have been a carrier problem when I tested them. I just haven't had a chance to try again.

yes very strange I have been sending texts just fine. I have noticed that BBM tells you when you dont have coverage now. IT says it will send when data is restored.

As a good practice, equate this release to .10 or .18 for the GSM versions.

I have no problems doing this on my Sprint 8330 or are you referring to the new beta os?

Sorry, I misread your post...I thought you were referring to the current os.

If I had to guess, the 4.5 OS will be released by VZW about the time they launch the next new device. If I remember correctly, the only time I remember an OS upgrade being launched on its own was about 2 months after the 8130 was launched. I could be wrong.

My VZW Business rep confirmed "Thunder" for "Q4". I suspect that means "In time for Christmas"?

I hope it is before that for a 4.5 release... I would love to get a beta on my Curve.

GPS still doesn't work as good as it did on my 8830. I have to start BBMaps and select find my location before Google Maps will get closer than 1700m. BBMaps seems to find a satellite faster than before but it might just be my imagination.
