Personally, I'm using the leaked 4.5.0.44 and it's working fine for me. I switched to YouMail, so the MWI isn't an issue. I still get the missed call icon, and that's enough to alert me to check my email for the voicemail. I'm finding battery life to be pretty good--much better than on 4.5.0.37. And the memory leak is about the same as it was with 4.2, so no big deal. In fact, I've found that free memory fluctuates down *and up* in the course of a day, although the general trend is down. If it means I have to do a soft reset every few days, that's no trouble. I was doing that anyway with 4.2. I believe I'll keep 4.5.0.44 until I either find some terrible bug or until there is an official T-mobile release.

I have never had the vmi show up at all on any of my various BB devices and OS's.

If I have a missed call I see the missed call indicator. IF the person wishes to leave a message I have always received a SMS from my voicemail stating how many new messages I have...

Just curious IF any of the other non-US operators trigger the vmi at all...?

Haha.. I never realized there was no message indicator. I did think it was weird that I hadn't been left messages after sending certain people to voicemail.

The next step in this evolution is voice-to-text on voicemail. I'm using a Universal Inbox number that has that (and charges for it). Virtual PBX | The Onebox Receptionist Virtual Phone System by the efax.com/ J2 people.

I for one think that the great demand for money should make all betas of money free, that way the wait for the production version more tolerable. Stealing is sinful!

YouMail has this feature and it's free.

I'm looking around their site, and I don't see anything on a speech to text feature.

Voicemails in the email, yes, but no speech to text conversion. Or do I have to sign up to see that?

"Transcriptions-Beta" You may need to sign up but I get a transcription included with the email I receive. Very cool.

It's not a BB application. Just go to YouMail - Cell Phone Voice Mail with Personalized Greetings and Online Retrieval and sign up and it will show you how to get it working. Basically, sign up and it tells you how to forward your calls to the youmail number.

Thanks John, you are the best.....now if I can only get my HTML pictures working in email I would be a happy camper... Yes I resent Service Books, and made sure the HTML is set up on all email accounts. And of course I am running 4.5.0.44.... Still hunting for .48.... Found .46 though

It only works on new messages. It won't show html on old messages.

they could fire their legal team, cease and desist sending out cease and desist notices, keep their employees, and deliver code that works to users that appreciate it.

their stock would go up too.

anyway, where the hell is .48?

Many companies run there beta's through companies like Centercode (onlinebeta). Good stuff, RIM is likely just chicken for the code to be "publicly" available.

Centercode *is* good, and they stress confidentiality in their process, but I can see that RIM is more concerned about confidentiality (paranoid?) than most of the clients that Centercode deals with.

RIM's attorneys / risk managment / compliance folks may also feel that they have more clout in threatening consequences when they control access to beta versions. Considering that they have about the most unhacked OS in the mobile market right now, and enjoy a great reputation in that regard among CIO's and government clients, that may be especially important to them, and may even justify their seeming paranoia...

What is the problem with YouMail? A couple minutes of customization and it's far superior to what TMo offers. The only downside at all is that there is no Message Waiting Indicator. You can turn off receiving text messages for missed calls...only takes a minute on their site. Now with HTML, the YouMail emails look really nice and the voice to text transcription can't be beat.

If you really want to remove it, just go to their site and it'll show you how. Keep in mind if you remove it you won't know if you have any voicemail because the message waiting indicator isn't fixed until OS 4.5.0.48.

Another vote here in favor of Youmail. I found a post on howardforums about this and signed up when the VM indicator stopped working. Good service with a great feature set. I turned off the text messages and now have my VM's sent to me as an MP3 attachment that will play from the BB media player. You can go HERE to discontinue the service. I wish this service would work on my landline phone.

I'm on .44 currently, and my only issue is the voice mail indicator. I will sit tight until an official release.

I know the question is for JC, but I asked youmail if I could upload contacts and the answer was "no, not at the current time", may be in the future. I am using youmail too and I love it, it is better than TMO or any other VM system I have used.

Same here, I think. Everything is working nicely with .44 except for the VM indicator. It still tells me if I missed a call, though, so that's a sign to check VM.

.46 did some crazy stuff in call for me, dropping the call, screen going white and slowly coming back with no radio operation etc..

I rolled back to .44 and all is good now, I'll try the next release when it hits though.

I also discovered that I cant get images in emails, unless they are attached to the message, if I'm connected to UMA, if I'm connected to EDGE, it gets my images just fine... weird eh? .46 was terrible for me, went back to .42... Rebooted on calls one too many times and that was enough for me to go back.

I don't know if this is a .46 issue or not. My BB (Curve) browser, running .46, doesn't find any of the links at the excellent site, Chess Tactics Explained in English: A Complete Tutorial.. That is, they're there, but they don't highlight and don't work. I haven't seen this on any other site, so it may be something peculiar about the coding of the site, rather than the OS.

Lagging? No North American provider (other than Rogers on the new 8120) has released OS 4.5. All of the carriers are lagging.

What do you mean lagging behind everybody else???? If you are stating that they are slow to release OS 4.5, no North American Carrier has released it besides Rogers in Canada.... Yet another newbie trolling the forums
