Default T Mobile 8320 BB OS 4.5.0.48 - 06-24-2008, 11:25 AM

Anyone seen this latest release. Curious about the memory leak and BB Messenger Contacts that are erased? If it hasn't been addressed I am going to have to downgrade back to 4.2.184.

I'm hoping for some good news. I like the 4.5.XX enhancements but the resets are killing me.

You seem to be missing some digits in your version numbers.
The new OS is 4.5.0.48 and your old OS would be 4.2.2.184

The memory leak for your concern still exists. It's just life at this point. Same as there is on the 4.2.2.184. If you don't need the upgrade, or nothing is enhanced for you, you don't need it.

Memory leak is an application issue; likely it still exists (I have never had it, so I don't know).

My BB Messenger items have never gotten lost in the upgrade.

Not in the upgrade but after a battery pull.

That hasn't been a problem for me either.
I've never lost any messages, contacts or conversations in BB Messenger.

I think this may be due to having both a BIS and BES servers with BB Messenger. I can't figure out why other people don't have the same problem.

Here is an example. Just the 5 running programs before and after the battery pull.

5MB Before
11MB After

And what programs had been running for the 48 hour period prior to the battery pull?

So after a battery pull, you only get 11MB to start off with? I think you need to follow John Clark's memory freer procedure and see if you still get this "drop from nowhere" if you start out with at least 25MB. Worth a try.

Yea, you have too much stuff on the BB already.

What other third party applications do you have loaded (maybe not running) on the BB?

Instango, Weather Bug, and Jive Talk. I will follow John Clark's memory freer procedure and advise.

Thanks

Instango, WeatherBug and JiveTalk "should" be running in the background if you are using them...

I noticed a "memory leak" with weatherbug. Try uninstalling that one and see if there is a difference.

If you follow the directions you should be ok. Many people have followed those directions with success.

Correct. JC's instructions are pretty much as simple as you can get. Very detailed and clear. So much that I have the thread as a bookmark in case I have a brain fart and forget how to edit my Blackberry.alx file...lol

What autodim issue? I have BIS/BES and I've never lost all my contacts. I have lost my convos during Enterprise Activation, but never my contacts.

Well, if you ever get to roll back to lets say....... 4.2.2.194, when you turn OFF Auto Dim and set the brightness to 10, the screen won't brighten up if it's OFF.

Now, ever since my first 4.5 install, which was 4.5.0.10 for my curve 8310, even if i have the Auto Dim set to OFF...,the screen brightens up. It never did this on the 4.2.2 OS's. I hope RIMS catches this one as to me it saves more battery by having the screen brighten at whatever brightness i set it to, which in all my previous cases has been to set it to the lowest, which is "10".

I hope i explained myself properly and if i didn't i'll try again, thanks for your concern regarding this matter.

-Ed.

Im actually searching for the latest BETA which is 4.5.0.48 for the 8310. I heard from here that the Voicemail issue has been fixed, maybe the Auto Dim has been corrected also.

No they do not. Those are only compatible 4.2.2 OS's. I hope they make them in 4.5.0 versions. I kinda like stargazer better.

Personally, I'd call that a fix. I can set it to 10 for inside but when I go outside it still brightens in sunlight.

4.1 was the latest OS for the 7290. You'll never see anything past that.

For what it is worth, I recently upgraded from a 1gb memory card to a 4gb card, and moved all of my pictures from the phone memory to the card. I haven't had a memory leak issue since then.

2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.
