Default 4.5.0.52 on the 8120 PreLoaded Media Not Included In Release?

Please Login to Remove!

I installed this about a week ago and was surprised to see that the preloaded media .cod files were not included. Has anyone else seen this? I was happy with it because I delete them anyway before the upgrade.

Now, if you wanted the preloaded ringtones, could you add them from another version?

Ringtones are there. It is the Wallpapers, folder icons and such. And yes you could if needed.

So basically to get them back, you would just grab the net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod file from, let's say, the .46 OS and put it in the Java folder of .52 right?

Well, so far so good. If it's just the wallpapers mainly, then I'm good without them.

I think it's also the custom images for the icon folders too...?

Anyway: I compared the blackberry.alx and the java files between versions. One thing is conspicuously missing in the latest version: net_rim_bb_medialoader_320x240_b.cod

So...although it might conflict with something else, I decided to give it a try: I edited my blackberry.alx to add a reference to the file, and copied the file to the java folder for the new OS. Update in progress right now -- should know within the hour...

The wallpapers AND the preloaded video are missing. The video alx file is empty.

John -

The "net_rim_bb_medialoader_video.alx" file that comes with .52 has been shortened (from prior versions) to only two lines:
<loader version="1.0">
</loader>
For whatever reason, they left out all the references between these lines that would have told the device manager to load the video files. Compare this 2-line file to the version of this file in earlier releases. My guess is that you could get it working as expected with a bit of surgery, although I personally would have blocked the loading of the demo video anyway, in line with the goal of keeping the load light.

Exactly. Why would I want to do that? RIM finally has done what I've been doing for quite some time.

I think they are using John's optimization guide!

So - I left the video media loader alx empty, and of course didn't get the demo video. My change mentioned above also managed to get me the preloaded images (which I DO like - some nice background there).

Had forgotten to block loading of the PTT files (I'm on TMo, not ATT), so I had to go back and mod platform.alx and re-run desktop manager.

Got everything back now the way I like it: all my apps up and running, themes in place, etc - and I still have about 16mb free. That's about 3mb more than I had with .42 -- nice!

platform.alx? I always thought that these files had to be removed from the Java folder:

net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod
KnJCDE.cod

At least that's what I've been doing, per JC's guide.

You can tweak the platform.alx file to get rid of it too. Just set the pttApp variable to False.

I like they way they trimmed out the wallpapers and video. It is just wasted space in my opinion. However, they probably should include them as an option. Some people might like to use them. I'd kind of like to be able to delete any built in ringtones that I don't use too.

Ah...I'll take a look. I've never modified the platform.alx file, only the blackberry.alx file.
