5 to 10 mins. I think some where around there. It seems like it takes forever.

John Clark 09-09-2008 09:42 PM

It can take up to 20 minutes....just leave it be!

Ok, got the OS installed, put the ringers on, now how do I acquire the "to go"products, word etc, etc?

John Clark 09-09-2008 10:54 PM

It should already be there. If it's not, connect it back to the PC, run DM and Application Loader and check the box for DTG. Then once it's installed open Word To Go and register it and then do the free upgrade.

While upgrading, you have to hit Advance and select the Docs To Go app to be installed. It's unchecked by default.

I'm digging 4.5.0.77. It's a faster sleeker build than its predecessor with less bugs. (once you get the ringer issue fixed.) Great thread.

Here's the process I followed:

Backup Device

Synchronize the device

Goto
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8830-v4.5.0.51_P3.2.0.41\Java\net_rim_bb_medialoader_qu alcomm.cod
and
rename to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod and move it to the Java directory in the 4.5.0.77 directory

delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml

Launch install 4.5.0.77

Launch BB Desktop Manager
- agree to install software
- get a good cup o joe

Once complete run BB Desktop
Click Check for updates
Install updates (this will install net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod)

When complete pull battery and ringtones will be restored.

Small issue

After installing the new OS, I added the ringers to my media card and proceeded to adjust my "normal" profile. I noticed that after I would make the necessary changes to an item, for instance, Facebook, and back out, saving changes in the process, I was/am unable to get back into that item no matter how many times I click the trackball or click menu>edit. I can only reenter one item, the Phone, but all other items are dead. Any thoughts?

I upgraded about a week ago to v4.5.0.77 on my 8330 (sprint).

No issues so far and never had the missing ring tones and vibrate issues. I upgraded and never looked back. LOL (y)

Tired of the radio / connectivity issues in this beta - I'm going back to 4.2 as we speak

ofelas 09-10-2008 08:00 PM

No radio/connectivity issues at all with 4.5.0.77 on my 8830.

As I said in prior posts, it became painfully apparent during drive from Toronto to Ottawa - perhaps the issues were amplified by the rural areas I was driving through... but either way - the last thing I need is TeleNav to be unable to reliably connect via data bc my BB is running a beta OS... since I usually rely in my GPS when I dunno where the f**ck I'm going ;-)

I like it so far. Vibrate did'nt work at first but after a battery pull it fixed it. Browser is better and does let you watch youtube videos.

Are you referring to the latest for the 8830? And, is this actually the older release 82 (aka 4.5.0.56)? OS v4.5.0.77 is actually release 101.

jibi 09-12-2008 01:35 AM

Apps version 4.5.0.82. And yes, for all 8x30 devices.

Sheesh! Just getting used to 4.5.0.77!!

On another note, my company e-mail is through Groupwise, which is supported with .77. But something I'm noticing with this version compared to 4.2 is that ALL messages (including ones that have been moved to folders) are coming through to the HH still. More importantly (and more frustratingly), mail that I have opened (either on desktop or HH) sometimes gets 're-pushed' to my HH as an unopened message. Has this happened to anyone else?

Back in the old days (I was born in 1947), we had to rely on service station maps to find our way when we didn't know where we were going or where we were or which way was up. I rely on TeleNav as well and make sure my wife's TeleNav page is properly documented when she travels for work.
