Updating my 8830 to 4.5.0.77

I downloaded and ran 4.5.0.77 on my computer and confirmed it was loaded in the device manger software under help. But can not get it to update the device with 4.5.0.77 through the application loader (doesnt find 4.5.0.77).

I am currently using 4.6.0.12 device manager and 4.2.2.196 on the device (8830). Any suggestion on how I can load 4.5.0.77? What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You didn't de;lete the vendor.xml file or read all the totorials. You may need to downgrade DM to 4.3.

akosnitzky 09-13-2008 02:44 PM

I was able to download 4.5.0.77 using DM 4.2 which I believe is more stable than DM 4.3. Something to consider.

Thanks clevebb and akosnitzky, I down graded the DM as you stated and no problem loading.

You won't find it in your 'usual spots'. It's an internal-only release at RIM at this point.

8830, Verizon, .77 Beta (I finally bit the bullet and "connecting to device" took forever and I finally went to sleep leaving the entire update to its own slow devices)

Using the Today Plus Theme: Is there a "fix" so that a REBOOT (soft reset or alt-shift-del) does not blow away my ICON ORDER and/or Folder setups?

John Clark 09-15-2008 07:37 PM

That's been an issue with Today Plus themes for quite a while.

FF2 09-15-2008 07:50 PM

Any similar themes that MAINTAIN icon order and folder contents?

I can try, it might take a ton of help unless you know your way around the blackberry at least a bit. Let me try just slightly more than in the thread and tell me if this helps.

You need to go to your previous OS folder on your computer, "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files" is where your old OS and new one should be. Go into the old OS folder, then go to the java folder and find the file net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod. Now copy this file into your jl_cmdr folder. Then right click this file, and rename it to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod. Now use the command line option in jl_cmdr to load this file onto your blackberry. Once you do this, a battery pull should restore all your tones. Let me know if any of this is not clear for you and ill try to give more details.

I tried to find the file, but I don't have it. For some reason the only folder I have on my loader files is for 4.5.0.77. So the net_rim_bb_medialoader_qualcomm.cod file is not in the folder.

I backed up the blackberry before performing the update...

Is there something I am doing wrong? What elese can I do?

Thanks!

Find an older OS and install it and take the cod file from that.

So do you suggest I dump DM 4.6 and go back to 4.2?

dilligaf05 - PM me, and I'll email you a copy of the *.cod ringer file if you cant find it from an earlier OS.

Well, after much hassle, I restored back to Verizon's last official update.

I am not sure what caused it but my 8830 would lockup after it went into standby mode, either using the AutoStandby program or merely placing the unit into my holster. No buttons would work and nor would the trackball. I could use the Alt-shift-del and reset it but the problem recurred over and over and over.....

It appears to have started after I installed docs-to-go but I really can't blame it on that. I removed docs-to-go and it still occurred. I started to remove a bunch of other things like a Vista Today Plus theme. Nothing at that point would help. My 8830 would still lock up until reset. I tried battery pulls over and over and that's not easy when an otterbox is involved.

Oh, well, I really wanted the voice recorder and the docs-to-go and the improved browser. I guess I shall wait until Verizon releases the "REAL" updated OS.

Unless someone has some ideas. But down-grading was not all that easy.

Question / Problem with .77

I have upgraded my 8830 to .77 and really like it (I was running 4.2 from Verizon before). I am on a BES Server and all is working except my Reminders on my Outlook. My BB will get calendar reminders and I used to get them on my PC also, but I am not getting any?

Any input?

Mike

Never mind - got it fixed by searching here!!! for a like issue. Had to run outlook /cleanreminders to get it fixed and now all is well. Nothing to do with .77.

Ok, not sure if anyone said this or not, for those of you upgrading from 4.2.X.X to 4.5.0.77 and want ring tones you can do so. I just did it, rename the net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_qualcomm.cod file in your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8830-v4.2.2.176_P3.0.0.76 (or whatever version yours was) copy it to the same folder, but for version 4.5.0.77 so

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8830-v4.5.0.77_P3.2.0.51

Now rename the file to net_rim_bb_medialoader_8830.cod

Run Desktop manager then the application loader, and you should be good after that. All the ringtones should be back on your device. You may need a battery pull after, this worked for me without having to get an earlier version of 4.5 on my system so it should work for you as well :)

Hope that helped...

Unlocked 8830

If my 8830 through Verizon was unlocked for world use prior to the update to 4.5.0.77, does the phone still carry it's unlocked status to the new OS, or do I need to call Verizon and get the code again?

It carries over I believe.

Does this have to be done on the PC where you originally updated your 8830 to .77? Because I'm not on that PC and I don't see the Shared\Loader Files under the Research in Motion File.

J0nAthAn0001 09-18-2008 07:10 PM

I used the same computer to update the OS on my phone as the one I normally sync with if that helps. Remember to look at the full path, not just /program file/Research in motion its the /program files/common files/research in motion directory...

Sorry, I just re-read your post, to answer your question, yes it does have to be on the same computer.
