Default Allow HTML Email: red padlock?

Please Login to Remove!

Well, this is a little peculiar, and I don't see any mention elsewhere.

I upgraded my 8310 from 4.2 to 4.5.0.55 last week, and everything seemed fine. Over the weekend, I noticed that red padlocks had suddenly appeared next to "Allow HTML email" on all four services, locking them to "no".

Before everybody jumps to "profile; evil BES admin!", yes, I am on BES, but via 4emm, and the profile is still the original I first received: "default profile" dated Sep 2007, and I'm pretty sure the padlocks appeared well after performing the upgrade and reregistration.

Everything else is working fine, including gmaps, bbalert, etc. Weird.

More details:
AT&T branded 8310, service on AT&T
3 BIS services
1 BES service, hosted via 4emm
upgraded from 4.2 to 4.5.0.55; a few days after the upgrade, the padlocks appeared.

4EMM glitch? AT&T doing something clever to squash beta releases?

Thanks.

Have you tried resending service books? That is normally required after upgrading to OS v4.5 in order to receive HTML e-mails.

Oh, yes -- a couple of times. (At least, I have from the BIS. 4EMM's control panel doesn't appear to have a "push service books" tool for the BES.)

Padlocks are a product of IT policy. I know you don't want to believe it but, unfortunatly, it's true.

Oh, it's not that I'm reluctant to believe it; indeed, it makes perfect sense. It does surprise me a little, given 4EMM's apparent market dominance among the enthusiast population, that I couldn't find any trace of this problem among other user reports.

Do you (or anyone) happen to know the correct setting name, so that I can have a more intelligent conversation with 4EMM support?

Just call them and tell them. I'm sure they will know why.

Like the OP, I'm also with EMM. I've asked them several times why they haven't rolled out HTML and they always reply that RIM has a problem with it crashing large BESs and is working on a fix - with no date.

Last Friday I noticed a red dot beside the "Enable HTML" field in Email Settings, and an hour later I received - an HTML message!

Any euphoria was short-lived, however. because I've received none since. But at least it shows there's work in progress.

Can you receive HTML for your BIS email?

There has been an ongoing issue with HTML crashing large BES's. I'm not aware of all the details but I have read that there are some issues.

Yes, HTML on BIS has been coming through OK.

Default emm html

I'm also with EMM. Last week they pushed out an IT policy set to restrict html email while they were doing some upgrades. After a long talk with their support about the inappropriateness of pushing an IT policy to client devices with no notice. They said their server didn't report any users who had 4.5 and they didn't think it would be an issue.

However, if you ask nicely, they will modify your policy and re allow BES HTML. They did it for me last week and I haven't had a problem since.

define a "large" environment. i'm running 10k users on 17 servers with 4.1.6 with about 7 people running 4.5 and haven't had any issues yet. of course like i said i only have 7 users running 4.5.

That was my resolution as well -- the rep indicated that they had been advised by RIM that having many users on HTML could cause BES-side issues, so they turned all off, but would turn back on case-by-case.

Thanks. I did ask nicely, and they added me to their HTML Emails policy. It works well. Images don't download automatically despite being set to do so, but I can live with that.

They don't download automatically for anyone, I don't think. Some images never download for me.
