Default Video email limit

Please Login to Remove!

All of the betas that I've had on my 8320, including 4.5.0.69 which I'm currently using, have a 3 MB limit for video attachments to emails. The limit for still photos is, I believe, 5 MB. And I'm pretty sure it was 5 MB on the official 4.2 OS as well.

Does anyone know whether the 3 MB limit is a beta thing, or whether it's a RIM policy that applies to official releases as well? I'm not sure why RIM would have a lower limit for video attachments than for stills, but I thought it might be to reduce server load during beta testing.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I think there should be an auto-stop feature in the video capture, so that it shuts off once the limit is reached. It's very annoying to capture some video, intending to email it to someone, only to find out too late that it's a bit too large to send.

Just spent an hour and a half on the phone with MTS Mobility (A Canadian Service Provider) and they advised me that the 3MB Limit was solely a Network Specific Limit. I too suffer from the limits of my Network (MTS Mobility) and I feel your pain

I too share your feelings on this matter. It is only by trial and error you can determine the data used in the resulting data file produced by your recording. I find that with a normal (240 x 176) Video format I get around 1 minute of footage per MB or 2.5 MB = 150 seconds... Still waiting for that auto-stop feature as well! If anyone knows of a 3rd party mod/application please post!

It just seems pointless to make the video attachment limit smaller than the still photo limit. And since these beta OS versions haven't been network specific, but all (that I know of) have had the 3 MB limit, I just had the idea that it was RIM doing it.

Quite possible... You may have a point there. Although my carrier advised me that it is THEIR policy to cap any video email attachment message at 3MB... But now that you mention it that sounds like BS because I can still send picture attachment messages up to 5MB (I Just Tested It). Possibly the RIM O/S will not allow a SINGLE attachment exceeding 3MB... hmmm... Maybe we can test this by attempting to attach 2 small videos that slightly exceed 4MB in total capasity... I'm gonna get back to you...

BTW my O/S installed is one specific for MTS Mobility customers so I took thier word for it, it's still the old v4.3.0.170 (Multilanguage) downloaded from RIM specific for MTS customers... not sure if I "HAVE" to use this O/S because I have a Canadian Carrier and am using a CDMA phone or what... I was lead to believe v4.5 for MTS Mobility customers was going to be released last July... more lies! I checked their site found here today again and nothing... It's almost October... they said "we're working on it" when I spoke to them today... lies... lies and more lies!
