I can't get any accented characters. When you hold down, a vowel and move the trackball, it just gives you a capitalised vowel.
I can't send a picture straight after taking it -- it says "could not attach the message file".
It seems to be using up more battery that whatever 4.5 version I had on before.
It seems to be using up more memory for the same apps than the previous version -- i even got a new pop-up menu telling me I had no memory left and offering me the opportunity to delete certain apps by ticking a box beside them and scrolling down to 'delete these apps' at the bottom
Same old browser -- no improvement there that I can see.
Still no way to hide video file -- so if your kids get hold of it when you're asleep, they'll see 18+ stuff like The Sopranos, because it omes up under the 'videos' file like everything else.
Wi-fi is still REALLY patchy -- basically it will usually log on to a network, but you won't be able to get your mail until it logs onto the BB server and you get a green tick in the box (not a white bar), and that may or may not happen. Extremely annoying, undermines the whole point of a BB.
Overall, it's a nicer OS, but a very minor upgrade. I'm going to try to find a newer one, or revert to 4.5...

So far so good. Every aftermarket app I've tried so far works (~10). Looks like I may have lucked out this time.

I've installed .100 just a few hours ago and from inital testing:
Applications that doesn't work:
Facebook 1.6
BBWeather
Viigo for Blackberry 3.1.330.0 - Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
Applications that does work:
Google Map 3.0.2
Slacker Radio 2.0.2
iheartradio 1.0
Pageonce Assistant 2.1.0
ScoreMobile for Blackberry 1.0
Opera Mini 4.2
Bolt 1.04
Blackberry App World 1.0.0.28
Crackberry App Store 1.04.165
I install this OS hoping for the new BB Messenger that allows avatar and proximity sensing but instead I got BB Messenger 4.7. Did this happen to anyone else?

The new BB Messenger is not included with any OS 5.0 betas.
Might want to try a battery pull for Viigo. I've been running 3.1.324 with no problems whatsoever. AFAIK, all the Viigo alphas work ok.

Did the Threaded SMS get into the 5.0 betas? I couldn't find a setting for it and the sms were still coming in the way they always were

threaded sms is a feature of the new bb messenger in the OS 5.
I dont understand how threaded sms is part of BB messenger, but there you go.

RIM probably does what they can to build reusable code into the OS to eliminate code bloat, maintain UI consistency, simplify debugging, etc. My guess is that they have defined a number of java objects that support messaging functionality in general -- e.g., a two-party user interface, display of a two-party conversation, threading, etc. These might look a bit different in BB messenger or SMS, but it's quite possible that RIM uses a bunch of common code to support the two different applications since they're so similar.
If that's the case, then it's quite possible that the code that handles threaded conversations for both BB messenger and SMS will be delivered in the COD files that make up the upcoming version of BB messenger.

I downgraded to 4.6.1.378. I only installed the new OS for the new BBM but since beta doesn't have it.. no point in keeping it.

I'm assuming you're referring to package 4.6.1.379 with applications version 4.6.1.250?
This is the version that *had* been leaked earlier as beta, but is now distributed as a production version by at least two carriers. I was using 5.0.0.100 for a couple of weeks, but found it too quirky and not quite ready for prime time, so I too fell back to 4.6.1.250. It's OK, but not where I want to be with the 8900: battery life seems very good on 250, but there's a lot of lagginess in normal operation. I often see multi-second pauses after doing simple things such as: change profile, use the "delete prior" function to delete half a dozen email messages, etc. Beta 5.0.0.100 was much snappier in this respect, but the errors outweighed the positives for me. Really looking forward to a more stable 5.x.x.x

Viigo doesn't work with Platform 5.0.0.x. But for .100 Viigo works fine.

Ok, taking another stab at the whole 5.0 beta. Was able to get flickr to work. I am still having trouble with the Google Talk. Completely deleted Flickr and re-installed and it's fine after that. Google Talk will not install from the blackberry mobile page, it says the requirements aren't met (not surprising). Go over to Blackberry app world, there's a version on there that's higher than what was previously installed, so tried to install it (btw, the icon are not showing up, but showing up in the application list) but still no dice, have tried battery pull delete and re-install. Any advice?

Well then don't upgrade past 5.0.0.100. .100 and below are on the 4.0 platform and above .100 is on the 5.0 platform so even less apps work on .110 and above.

Let me clarify. I installed 5.0.0.100, and google talk still isn't working. Other people on this thread are stating that Google Talk is working ont their OS. I was asking how they got theres to work. And the higher version level I was referring to was the 2.2.38 of google talk in the app world.

I actually love this release. No Facebook and ESPN, no problem though. I use the browser for those. Everything else works... Ubertwitter, GTalk, AIM, Pageonce, GMaps and etc
BTW, I love the trackball scroll for pics and the album cover thumbnails for music.

I have been running 5.0.0.100 on my bold for the past few days. I use mine almost entirely for phone/email/calendar, so I don't have the same issues with applications others do. I have found this to be the most stable ROM I have had on my bold. No crashes so far, and I like the improvements in the UI (although they are not super-significant). I am on BES and have had no problems. One last point.... you lose the ability to change 2G/3G with this ROM as compared the most recent 4.6 ROM.

Same here. Absolutely no problems with 5.0.0.100 or any of the 3rd party apps I run. Once I got the BB browser back with the Crackutil fix and downloaded BBM 5 OTA, even that is running like a charm.
