Default can't install 5.0.0.238 without data plan" - 10-08-2009, 12:59 PM

When I try to install OS 5.0.0.238, I see this OS listed in the Software update area of the application loader in DM 5. But there is an * that states "Only active Blackberry service subscribers are entitled to install this Blackberry Device Software upgrade." And when I try to run it, it doesn't go, tells me to go sign up.

I've also tried running the Loader.exe in Program Files/Common Files/RIM/Apploader and the update doesn't show up there.

I cancelled my data plan a couple of months ago and deleted the email addresses from my service book.

Anyone know a way around this?

If I'm stuck, will RIM allow me to download the official release without a data plan?

Thanks!

You'll either have to download the file from your carrier's device upgrade website, or wait until the file is posted for download on the internet. It's done all the time for different carriers.

Also, the carrier does not matter any more ...

Yes, I tried that. No worky. I've tried a variety of combinations of uninstall/install/delete/etc. all suggestions that I've found on the web.

If I uninstall everything and just run the 5.0.0.238 installer, when it's done it asks if I would like to run the apploader. I say yes but my curve 8900 is not recognized. It just shows two ports (4 & 5 I think and they are disabled. You can select from about six or seven connection speeds but none of them work. No matter which one I select the result is "disconnected". Not sure I understand how to use that dialogue but I think that I've tried every combination. (In this situation, the "auto detect" check box is greyed out).

hmmmm.

Cool Blackberry V5.0 - 10-10-2009, 03:00 AM

I installed it with no issues. SMS Text reply box sucks now. You get a small box to type into, When you hit enter to go to the next line it actually sents the incomplete message. One more week and if it annoys me too much, I'll revert bact to V4.6
