Default new BIS 2.8, Gmail and contact sync with OS 5.0 - 10-14-2009, 02:57 PM

Anyone get this to work yet? One of the new features of BIS 2.8 and OS 5.0 is the ability to wirelessly sync your contacts with Gmail. Now I have deleted my BIS Gmail account and re-added it like you are supposed to, but I still don't see any options to sync contacts.

I am running a 9630 on 5.0.230

Thanks for any help.

It wont work until RIM officially release OS 5.
They know if they've released it, and until they do, I think theres a check box on a server saying "yes enable this feature now" which isnt checked yet.

Already works for me with 8900 .238
You have to login into BIS from BB and autheticate yourself. After that you'll be able to check "synchronize contacts" within BIS web interface.

OR..

You could go and install Google Sync? Allows you to sync your contacts & Callenders to your gmail account Been using it on my bold, and it works perfectly. Once you install it, just set it up (username + pass), and it'll even automatically back things up for you, so no need to keep remembering. Very helpful when ur doing a full wipe, and u dont have ur contacts

P.S - Works fine on 5.0.0.238 as well.

I think this going to be a carrier specific function, they probably have to do something to enable this feature.

For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

When I put 5.0.0.230 on my Tour and resent service books, the checkbox showed up to sync contacts.

However, when I checked the box and clicked "Save", I got a prompt "An error occurred during email account validation. Please check your information and try again."

Not sure what this is all about. I only have a couple gmail contacts. I only email a handful of people from my personal account and have them all duplicated in my work account which is synced with BES.

VZW 9630 / BES 5.0.0 mr2 on Notes 8.0.1

9630 <- 8330 <- 8130 <- 8830 <- 8703e <- 7130e <- 7250

Default Orange UK BIS - 10-20-2009, 06:36 AM

The new option is showing with my gmail acct on BIS with my carrier - Orange UK.

I use outlook for my gmail and desktop manager to sync my contacts there so no real benefit to me.

Now, true 2 way snyc of 'sent items' and 'read items' etc etc would be nice!

Agree 100%.

Why mess with the possibility of another messy RIM rollout of a new feature when Google Sync works fine already
