I have heard its quicker, screen transitioning is smoother, and also that the iPhone menu flick / scroll option is added.

I am waiting to upgrade being that all forums and blogs note a litany of bugs and conflicts.

My coworker has 5.0.0.230 and the flick scrolling is cool, but the threaded SMS is a pain and so far an option to turn it off isn't included.

Well I just located a new version of 5.0 that is supposed to be pretty good. I am having a terrible time with 4.7.0.167 so I think I am going to make the leap.

I just got done loading this and my opinion is that you will not be disappointed. The only glitches I have seen so far are aftermarket themes and I am working through a problem with Quicklaunch now. On initial reboot, and after activation (BES user) I was able to reset the device with QL. After the first time, I am no longer able. All other functionality of QL seems to work. IMHO, a small price to pay for the changes with this OS. This is truly like having a new handheld. Still feeling the whole thing out. I will report back after it has time to settle in.

I just made the leap from 4.7.0.151 to 5.0.0.323, and so far it's running smoothly. I still have to reinstall a couple apps and play around with it some more, but I think this one may be a keeper.

I think I am on to why QL will not reset the device anymore but I have no resolution. When I try to edit permissions, I am unable to set all to "allow". Under "Interactions", the setting is custom and I cannot change it to allow. The "Security Timer Reset" is set to deny and it will not let me change it. Hopefully Nikkisoft will address this in an update. I did try removing and reinstalling to no avail. I still stand behind my comment that this and custom themes are a small price to pay for the changes this makes to the handheld.

Otherwise, all is still running very well.

Adorkable,

did you use BBSAK or just the backup and the apploader?

What was your process utilized in making the move?

Installed to PC, deleted vendor file, ran loader.exe from the same directory. The DM gave me some weird message when I tried to upgrade that way first.

If you have a storm the keyboard is 100x times more accurate too..no idea why but I have also heard it is in the Storm 2 as well..probably the os is part of the reason with that one too.

Hmm..obviously you have a storm if you are using this...I just got thinking this was a generic v5 thread because there are so many v5 threads going on right now.

Default Os 5.0.0.323 - 10-21-2009, 09:35 PM

Oh yes, the Storm heart strings have yet again swelled, as surely as they always do when yet again touched by the better angels of a new OS.....LOL!

First, all praises to Adorkable for prodding me towards the 5.0 realm. Many platonic hugs and kisses your way fair maiden! My wife approves.

If any of you are hesitant, I must say this unequivocally:

OS 5.0.0.323 is what you all have been waiting for. This is how the Storm should have first emerged.

Plainly stated, the Storm finally runs, I mean it RUNS fast!

For me there is only one complaint. In landscape my favorite theme glitches. But so what. Another theme cometh down the old winding road.

I am again in love with my Storm. Sort of like going on a whirlwind bed and breakfast weekend with the wifey and finding the right bottle of wine that compliments a wonderful romp in the sack.

I encourage you all to take .323 for a ride. From a man who has been there from the beginning, enduring the terror of 4.7.0.65, I must say the Storm is finally noticeably trudging towards perfection....

Ok, I must concede I am three glasses into a bottle of Pinot Noir, but this OS simply ROCKS!!!

Using OS 5.0.0.323 on Storm. Runs smoothly! Don't like its UI for Gmail and SMS.

So far everything has been running well for me, and the only app of mine that doesn't work is QuickPull Lite. I have an older version of Google Maps (3.0.2) and that works fine as well, but I have heard that the newest version doesn't.

I didn't like the threaded SMS feature too much at first, even though it just mimicked BBM, but after changing the look from bubbles to stripes, it has grown on me.

Occasionally with my Gmail and UberTwitter apps, the icons won't change to indicate new items, but a sound will play and the app titles still change to include the number of new items in parenthesis, so that little bug hasn't bothered me too much.

For the most part, things haven't changed too much at all, but everything just seems to work the way it should have been working from the start. Examples of such being the addition of flick scrolling as well as both the clock and signal indicator being clickable.

Apps that work:
Gmail 2.0.7
Facebook 1.7.0.18
UberTwitter 0.925
VZW Visual Voicemail 1.19.16
Google Maps 3.0.2
Pandora 1.1.1
YouTube 1.6.10

Application free memory has definitely decreased. With .151 I would usually have around 47MB free after a battery pull, and now I only have 36MB. Everything seems to run faster now, so that doesn't seem like much of a problem.

The only issue I had after the upgrade was with BBM. It said it was installed, but there was no icon anywhere, not even hidden. Reinstalling via App World only added an icon for an archived version of BBM, and after clicking that, the icon just disappeared again. To fix the issue, I just uninstalled the missing version of BBM and then reinstalled it from the blackberry.com website.

Threaded SMS has actually grown on me, and I just use my old Gmail app instead of the new plugin.

Adorkable,

I had the same issue with BB Messenger. I had 5.0 installed and it was completely gone when I finished the installation.

I simply reloaded the 5.0 app OTA and was back in operation with no problems.

I actually love the threaded SMS format. Mostly because it keeps my screen less cluttered and I can return to the same thread for extended chat rather than contually deleting each reply and response.

I am going to check out the striped format. I don't quite understand where the "Bubble" title comes from.

While revamping my audio alerts I have noticed a distinct difference in the sound emanating from the Storm on 5.0.

#1. The Storm audio is much louder. But louder to the point of distortion.
#2. I have had to lower the levels from 10 to 8 for audio alerts to avoid the crackling sound on the speaker.
#3. I could be wrong but it seems the quality of the sound has been degraded. Can't quite put my finger on it but it seems the alert noises aren't as crisp.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I definitely noticed that my alarm was a lot louder this morning, but as for all the other sounds, they seem about the same and I haven't noticed any distortion. However, I have read that some people have been experiencing the same issue.

I've been using .323 since shortly after the leak was found and I'm upgrading from 4.7 (I think this is the first 5.0 OS I've tried since .90 was released).

Pros:
Flick scrolling (works very well)
New clock (slightly less appealing, but functionality is improved, mainly from flick scrolling)
Default Today theme - including 5.0 built in options clock and connection icons
Very snappy keyboard
Great screen transitions
Overall a much more responsive screen/device (Far more enjoyable to use now than ever before)
Compared to former 5.0 leaks, this has very few application issues.

Con's:
Break's themes. -When you turn to landscape mode, I believe the resolution was changed, so the background never changes from the portrait mode
Other people have complained about about the sound being distorted, and pictures becoming grainy/slow to load - although on loading, I feel that it is actually faster.

Bottom line:
Since I first tried this OS, I've kept telling myself, this has to be very close to release, it is just so close off of the ideal 5.0 OS in my mind. From what the rumors over at CB are saying, it seems .328 will be officially released today/tomorrow. To be honest, this was highly expected because of how strong of an OS .323 is, and I expect this will be a great OS release.
