| I experienced my first reboot. Started the call at 9:34 and the phone rebooted at 10:16. I will try this again tonight. If I get the same results, I will have to revert back to 4.5.
But other than that, the OS seems to be solid, much happier with this version than .230. I hope the reboot was just a one time thing but I am not going to hold my breath.

| Alright, so here's an update..
I was on a call for 48 minutes last night with NO REBOOT. I did pull the battery prior to making the call to see if that would make a difference and it seems to have. I think I will keep this on for a few more days to do some more testing. Doing a battery pull prior to making a call is not acceptable, if that is the case.

| OK, did the hybrid install. My experience so far.
Preface, BPS connectivity and pulling a gmail account, followed install instructions listed.
1) never rebooted after install, new loading bar stuck at about 30% for over 30 min - pulled battery and then BB booted just fine but took probably < 10 minutes for the first boot to complete - subsequent reboots are about normal < 90 seconds to complete useable device
2) memory usage, I have 17.5 mb 15 min after reboot, a few SMS msgs, and a little picture playing, 21.x after clean reboot. I removed all non english language stuff with shrink-a-os prior to install, left all other options there.
3) phone calls - yes, phone works, not much else I can say. Several short calls and it works fine so far, no speaker blast
4) BES/BPS picked up without a hitch, Exchange and calendar both sync'd no problems. Gmail acct never missed a beat.
5) I am on VZW (from Alltel) with Alltel ESN 8330, I did not take the vendor file out and phone says Alltel service in all service settings, etc.
Phone feels responsive and seems to work good. I have been having a few issues with finding things I do, namely SMS, on a daily basis. The new threaded SMS is pretty good but I am not grasping the forward to multiple options just yet. Creating a new SMS to someone who hasn't sent you an SMS is a little 'different'. Both items are working just fine, its *ME* that needs to learn the minor differences.
So far, so good. I give the OS a 4 outta 5 stars. Why only 4, cause its not quite as "user friendly" as I would expect but I may be stuck in my 4.x OS ways.

| So after being hopeful about this, I ran into some more issues this weekend. I had 3 reboots while on a call each time. It happened to three different contacts. Each time was around the 45 minute mark. Downgrading back to 4.5.

| I am on Sprint and still having major issues with the rebooting around the ~49 minute mark...I've tried everything...I've installed birdman's newest 6.5 hybrid, I've pulled the memory card, I've not installed any 3rd part apps...right now my phone is running nothing but the core apps and BBM and it does have a bit of memory leak but I've monitored it all the way to reboot with the memory never dropping below 37.0MB so I can say that it's definitely not memory leak that's causing the reboots...I've also tried the phone calls with the phone plugged into the charger to rule out the possibility of the battery...and it still reboots at ~49 minutes...it's highly frustrating and birdman said that the problem eludes him and seems to be isolated to a Sprint problem...kathrynhr, I'm wondering if you have any other thoughts on this...this OS is awesome but the reboots suck! | | Offline

I removed pre-loaded background pics, video, music. I left the pre-loaded themes and the ringtones.
I uninstalled BB Maps, but otherwise left all the RIM apps in place.
I have a handful of 3rd party apps.
The new version of QuickPull is supposed to work with OS 5.0. You may want to give it a try: Steelthorn Software » QuickPull Pro & Free
Sorry I can't be of more help. | | Offline

Sorry I can't be of more help. | The only thing different is that I didn't edit the .alx file (i tried but for some reason it wouldn't let me save the file), but I checked it against the sprint release of 4.5 and it looks to be the same with the vendor files so I just used shrink a os and deleted everything but the bare necessities...i'll try quick pull and see what happens...maybe that will give me real time memory monitoring....thanks for the suggestions. | | Offline

| After 4 days of standard use (minimal calls, moderate email, moderate texting, and the occasional Sudoku playing the memory leake is a little annoying but not a deal breaker. I rarely (er VERY RARELY) hit a 45 min phone call.
I am down to ~7 Mb free. I noticed txt messaging getting really laggy was what caught my eye. With the addition of the hybrid 5.0, I put a green cover, green trackball, and green chrome ring. Wollah for the sum of $20 I have a NEW PHONE in the holiday spirit.
