what' the difference between this and the earlier .509 u posted?

I moved from .348 to this release and found the following:

• slightly better battery life
• more memory available
• far less severe memory leak compared to .348
• SMS delivery receipts work nicely again

In the .348, I started out with 20.9 mb and by the day would sit at around 14 mb, which didn't impress me at all. Now, I am starting out with 31.5 mb and still have 29.3 mb 16 hours later. In all, not bad.

I haven't found anything really negative as of yet. Everything restored perfectly with the update.

This isn't directed at D$C or anyone else, but in general, every time you do an OS upgrade, especially if it has been months since the last upgrade, and particularly if you install/uninstall a lot of apps -- you will gain back a lot of memory.

If, like me, you install and uninstall all sorts of 3rd party apps, then over time the database(s) that store user data (registration keys, configuration, etc) for each application gets larger and larger and larger. When you upgrade OS's, these particular databases are not restored (that's why you have to re-register all your 3rd party apps and set them all up again even though you upgraded rather than wipe and reinstalled), and you get all that memory back. It can add up, believe me!

You can downgrade OS's and immediately turn around and upgrade again to the same OS you started out with and have 5 to 10 MB more than when you started out. I sometimes upgrade OS's even though I'm happy with the current version, just to clean old junk out.

I'm glad someone finally posted this very useful information.

Now, is there any way to clean out the stored user data that has accumulated over time /manually/ without going back and forth on the OS? Clearning browser cache is always recommended, but that really doesn't amount to much application memory.

You make a good point. I guess that cleans out the "cholesterol". Even setting the memory issue aside, the leak is still not as bad as my last install (.348) and the SMS delivery receipt is still a good thing.

for some reason i can no longer use my "k" key lock my phone. pretty annoying.

Can't get rid of the Facebook calendar!! :(

It has been permanently removed from the OS...I use the "A" key on my 9700 and I believe it should also work on the 9000....look at your speed dial and see if it's there on the "A" key.

Delete the service book for it.

I tried a WindHellas 5.0 and Nuked my AT&T Bold 9000. Brought it back to life with Stock 4.6 OS and then loaded 5.0.0.314....and LOVE IT!!! Much faster, quicker browsing as well.
Does anyone know if there is a 5.0 OS more current that WORKS on the AT&T Bold 9000, (other than 5.0.0.314) ? Would love to try if someone can post LINK to a more current OS?

The WindHellas .509 works just fine on the AT&T Bold 9000.

Ditto...upgraded a few days ago and never looked back. Really liked the full screen camera view now with the .509 upgrade. Love the internet speed using opera mini 5. No problems at all with the WindHellas upgrade on my Bold 9000.
