Just Thought I would tell everyone that I have got this to work with the Cellular One, apart of the Dobson Cellular. Thanks to paulbblc for supplying the APN,
apn = cellular1wap
username/password leave blank
I then used this information with the origonal post here and placed the cellular1wap into the extra control command for the modem using the cingular blue as a "template"
Cingular Blue/AT&T Users (Success!)
+cgdcont=1,"IP","proxy"
In place of "proxy" put "cellular1wap", while working with paulbblc he finaly got his to work using the TMobile as his template
TMOBILE USA Users (Success!)
+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0
again in place of "wap.voicestream.com" he used the "cellular1wap", I'm not sure if he tried the Cingular control code so the 0's at the end might not have any effect... Don't know
Last thing we used the *99# for our dial up number, and leave the username and password blank. It won't be fast, but it does work.

I didnt try the cingular blue control code, I actually just used the first one on the list which yes happened to be the t-moble control code.
I might test it this weekend to see how many of the control codes work using the cellular1wap apn.
Other wise If the cingular blue control code worked I would imagine that cingular orange would work as well so i'll try it out.
Getting it to work was a big surprise to me as I was told that Cellular One didn't support the dial up feature by one of their reps. Thanks to samhnky for letting me know yesterday that he got it going I tried it again and it was a success.

What happens when you try to surf? Do you get an error message? What happens if you ping www.blackberryforums.com?
You might want to take a look at SharkModem. I have used it for hours at a time since it was release last week. It works very well, and it's fairly easy to set up. The only weird thing is that you have to configure your mail client and browser as if they are connecting to a proxy server.

7290 w/ Cingular/AT&T as GPRS Modem? -
01-25-2006, 11:27 PM
I have the 7290 with Cingular AT&T. I have installed the modem on COM6 and I get to the point where the dial-up succeeds, network connection is established, ipconfig shows expected info. IP traffic does not work however, packets going out but nothing received. I see the same symptom with 3 different modem configurations (including the SharkModem driver and the instructions provided by Cingular as well). It looks like the inbound traffic gets blocked. Anybody has seen and resolved this? Any info appreciated.
Thanks!

If I try to send e-mail from my laptop while connected through my BB, I get a "relaying denied" message from my usual ISPs. I'm using T-Mobile with my BB and I'm guessing that I need to change my outgoing e-mail server to whatever the SMTP server for tmo.blackberry.com is. Does anyone here know what it is?

I am getting the following error messages - have I missed a crucial and obvious step?
AT+FCLASS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT#CLS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
Thanks
Forgot to mention - Windows XP SP2 and BB 8700
I performed an uninstall/reinstall of the desktop software too.

I've got the same exact problem (see below). I'm using a 7290 on T-Mobile. I can ping www.google.com successfully, but I can't browse webpages in any browser (no error, it just loads indefinitely). It's not just that it's running slow...I've let it sit for 5 minutes and I still can't load Google (which is a really small page). I was on the phone with T-Mobile tech support for about an hour and a half with no luck. They escalated me to third-tier engineering support, but they never got back to me. I'd rather not pay money for a third party app (Shark Modem) especially when I'm able to get online. Anybody have any suggestions?

Has anyone had any success sending e-mails from their laptops while using the BB as a wireless modem? If so, how did you do it? I get "relaying denied" from every e-mail address I try. I called T-Mobile but they said they didn't know the BB SMTP address but that BlackBerry might but I couldn't find anything about this in their technical knowledge base.

This may be a tough problem to solve. The problem is that the SMTP server you are trying to use has rules in place to stop spam from being relayed off of it by outsiders. I think you are going to either have to find an SMTP server that doesn't block it (and I doubt if you will get one from Blackberry since they're not in the isp business) or go to someone who allows authenticated smtp. I user Earthlink for my broadband access at home. At work I am able to connect to Earthlink's authenticated smtp server to send mail since I am an Earthlink customer.

Ok, stupid question of the day: If you connect via a traditional method (broadband, dial-up, etc) can you browse? I assume your answer is yes, but had to ask. If you can do a successful ping (ie, "ping www.blackberryforums.com " returns something that begins "Pinging blackberryforums.com [72.36.209.218] with 32 bytes of data:" you are connected and have DNS resolution.
Do you have a personal firewall (ZoneAlarm, Norton, or Mcafee for example) on the PC that could be stopping it? Try temporarily shutting down your personal firewall. There is also a firewall in later versions of Windows (starting with XP?) that could be blocking you, but I don't remember how to turn it off.

Thanks very much for the reply. Yes, I am able to browse (and do anything internet related, for that matter) when connected via my broadband connection. As far as I know, there are no firewalls (and I keep the native XP one disabled) although I'll need to double-check to be 100% certain. The fact that I'm getting successful pings leads me to believe that this wouldn't be the issue though, right? Again, any feedback is much appreciated so thanks for your thoughts, dozment.

Well, a successful ping means that you're getting DNS resolution, you have a network connection, and ICMP is allowed through all the firewalls.
To test for web capability you could try this from a command line:
telnet www.blackberryforums.com 80
You will either get an error message saying something about not being able to find or connect to the server or you will get a blank screen. If you get a blank screen you have a connection on the port that should allow you to browse. If that works I would start looking at it as a browser issue.

OK, this sounds like a good step in the right direction. I'll try this tonight when I get home and post the results here. Thanks again, dozment.

oddly enough, it appears to be working properly now. webpages finally resolve and i'm able to surf the internet normally. in a medium reception area, i'm running ~35kbps down and ~8kbps up. i haven't changed anything since my last test (when i posted here initially)...it just works. while i'm not sure that this was actually an issue, the t-mobile tech insisted that i install the modem as a "Standard 56000 bps Modem" instead of the "Motorola USB Modem", as sugggested by the forum. other than that, the instructions on the forum here are flawless. thanks again for the help.

I have 8700 and Cingular Service. I can get it to connect, says, "registering On the network", then i get error 736. TCP/IP CP reports error 736: Remote computer terminated the control protocol. Any ideas?

Here's an update to my above posts--i called Cingular and while they said using the BB as a modem was not supported, they did help me to get it to work by adding Data Connect to my existing Unlimited Data Plan at no additional charges. Seems they have to add that for you to be able to have access points. They have assured me that there are no additional charges, but i am waiting to see for sure on my next bill, because they have given me incorrect info in the past. But, at least for now, all is working fine and the speed isn't half bad....cool!
